<<< STORY ANALYSIS INCLUDED >>>
In this short story, it’s Christmas of 1960 in North Florida. Blissfully ignorant white children, oblivious to the coming civil rights storm, enjoy their Christmas delights at worst knowing only the petty quarrels of their own sibling rivalries. Meanwhile, in the darker areas of their towns and cities, some Black children are just trying to survive. Being Black is hard-luck enough in the pre-civil rights era, but being a Negro girl abused by her own kind is doubly so.
