Christmas from the Heart

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
In a sense, David Archuleta should have skipped his awkward contemporary pop album and jumped right into Christmas from the Heart: he was born to slickly sing sentimental standards, which is all he does here. Apart from one song sung in Spanish and "Ava Maria," in Latin, there are no surprises here either in song selection or execution, but Archuleta is comfortable in such a familiar setting, singing in a friendly, eager-to-please fashion that will win him no new fans but will surely please all the old ones, especially those who loved him on American Idol and wondered why there were so many drum loops on his 2008 debut.

The title of this cd describes David Archuleta's emotion as he sings each beautiful song.

This is the most touching Christmas album I have ever heard. God has certainly blessed him with a wonderful talent! My advice to David is to stay true to the music and to yourself. Let the original rendition of a song be your "style" like on this album. Don't change too far from the David we all fell in love with. I am proud to be a David Archuleta "Groupie"! I will buy more of his albums!

    Beautiful!

I know David Archuleta can sing. His debut album and all his performances have proved it over and over again. But in "Christmas from the Heart" he really outdoes himself. He just keeps getting better and better. The album shines. The choice of the most beautiful Christmas songs and great orchestration puts this work above the average albums you can get this time of year. David realizes that his talent is a gift and in this album he uses his gift for God's glory and because of that we are able to see and hear Christmas as it is meant to be. Bless you, David, and thank you.

French, Spanish, Latin, and a lot of toe tapping, some bluesy jazz inspired arrangements, and every attention paid to detail transitioning from one song to the next. Undeniably fantastic.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide could not be MORE wrong.

Give credit where credit is due. David's pop album was very much driven by a record label. David is young and far more talented than most of the artists out there today.

Because of his youth, and undeniable vocal perfection, David is afforded something rare that you don't find often on the music scene. He is so incredibly gifted, he can try out different genres of music, his existent fanbase is loyal enough to keep Jive pumping out more of David's music. David released 2 albums in 11 months, and has toured internationally and at home building and growing a fanbase.

He's popular in the U.S., Canada, Philippines, UK, Japan, China, Italy, Brazil, Germany, do I need to go on?

Some reviews should be taken with the grain of salt in which they are intended, for they are just "one persons opinion".

Find me another 18 year old, with the dedication and success David has enjoyed over the last 2 years, that sings in 4 different languages, and loves every second of it, while simultaneously doing writing sessions all over the country getting ready to pop out a THIRD album in early 2010.

Jive is notoriously thrifty, they wouldn't pop out music like this unless they knew it'd sell .. and sell WELL.

Look forward to David's Sophomore album .. hoping to hear some stuff he's been writing over the last couple of months.

LOVE this album .. David's vocals .. are flawless, smooth, and velvelty. I guess if that's what you EXPECT, it can't be a bad thing.

    Beautiful Christmas album.

This is a wonderful Christmas album. David sings these songs with reverence and care. His voice is perfect for spiritual, uplifting songs. I was also impressed with the city of prague philharmonic orchestra on 8 of the tracks.

I Highly Recommend This CD to all ages, genres and walks of life...

    (1) One of the best Christmas CDs ever! David does an AMAZING job with CFTH! He doesn't just sing the words like others do. He caresses them, FEELS them, and makes the listener feel them, too. I honestly cried a few times. Very heartfelt. When he adds the riffs and runs, and goes for the high notes, it's just...MAGICAL. And you can't stop listening. O Holy Night, What Child Is This, Ave Maria? You honestly haven't heard these songs until you've heard David sing them. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the up-tempo pop-style "Pat-A-Pan" (French) and "Riu Riu Chiu"! Never heard those songs on a Christmas album! Also really enjoyed the duet with Charice Pempengco, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!" Those two sound great together!

    (2) In answer to the Editorial Review...I completely disagree. While David's voice is very suited for the songs on this album, it is equally suited for pop, soul, R&B and a myriad of other styles. You ain't seen nothin' 'til you've seen David in concert. He can do it all, and he DOES! You will walk away wondering how one person could be so multi-faceted, so improvisational, and what it is you just witnessed. The energy, the runs, the falsetto, the soooooul...amazing! Did I mention "the soul"? And David's debut pop album was not awkward in the least. It showed David's ability to tackle and sound brilliant with a variety of styles. His next album comes out next year, and I for one cannot wait!! Mr. Erlewine~ You really, really need to go to one of David's concerts and see what you've been missing out on. Because you've obviously been missing out on alot.

    Excellence in Christmas Music

This album is the perfect blend of beautiful, timeless Christmas songs and a pure, sweet voice that was absolutely made to sing them! Not contemporary, cutesy, or overdone, but soul-reaching, spirit-lifting music that will be around for a long, long time. I will own this album and probably wear it out before Christmas gets here!

David Archuleta's album is taking me all the way through this holiday season and then some.

I can hardly wait for the album to drop. David's voice puts me in such a wondrous state of mind. I imagine I will be listening my way through shopping, baking and household chores and wondering where the time has gone.

David's tone and phrasing is a thing of magic. So far Riu Riu Chiu, Pat-A-Pam, and I'll Be Home For Christmas are my favorites but with David that can all change once I am able to hear all the selections in their entirety. David singing in French, Latin and Spanish has me over the moon. It's just beautiful!

    Love these melodies of Christmas!

I'm a big David Archuleta fan, and when I found out he was making a Christmas album I didn't write know what to expect, but the day I got the album and listened to it, I loved it! It's very joyful, yet heartfelt. It was a mix of fun holiday songs along with some spiritual songs that really reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. And with that incredible voice of his, he pulled off each one amazingly. What I liked about the album was that it was traditional, with a few twists to the songs. For example, in the first track, Joy To The World, the background music was Hark The Herald Angels Sing. I also was stunned by the added lyrics in the end "He ruled the world with His truth and grace, The wonders of His love, Oh He reigns, the Lord, my God, He reigns". Another one, the one that David co-wrote, Melodies Of Christmas, is probably one of the cutest, most David-esque songs I've ever heard from him. It says "Sing the melodies of Christmas", exactly what he did. He wanted to share his love for Christmas with everyone through those songs and I think he did. Another thing that makes this album original is that there's 4 different languages sung on it. Obviously English, but David also sings Riu Riu Chiu in Spanish, Ave Maria in Latin, and Pat-a-Pan in French. I also enjoyed the jazzy feel to I'll Be Home For Christmas. But the one song on the album that just takes you back is O Holy Night. The way he sings it and the emotion he puts into that song is just unbelievable, and even better live. To sum it up, David called the album Christmas From The Heart because he thought his interpretation of those songs was heartfelt, and when you listen to it, you can really tell it's coming straight from his heart. So whether you want a calming What Child Is This or a joyful O Come All Ye Faithful, this album is perfect for the Christmas season.

Just Perfect! Beautiful voice that totally connects with the listener in every song.

This cd is certainly a gift to the listener. I can't stop playing the songs over and over. Pat-a-Pan is something I had never heard - it should be on the radio right now. My favorites are What Child is This, Oh Holy Night, Ave Maria, Silent Night and on and on. This is a must-have cd. Excellent vocals that connect with the spirit and meaning in each song and make the listener feel each song in a new way.

    more from this reviewer

The Spirit of Christmas: David Archuleta

David Archuleta possesses a once-in-a-lifetime voice that can move people in ways never before experienced, that springs forth and soars from the recesses of his very soul. This talented young man speaks volumes to the good and still-innocent in all of us, especially during the Holiday Season. Therefore, as David Archuleta seems to embody the Spirit of Christmas itself, there is no one better qualified, in my opinion, to sing to us about it.
