Christmas In Noisy Village (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) based on 0 ratings. 2 reviews.
A breathless race through the busy days leading up to Dec. 25th, "Christmas in Noisy Village" is packed with the simple pleasures of handmade gifts and homemade winter fun. Astrid Lindgren tells a lively tale of children from three neighboring farms caught up in the excitement of the holiday season. Excellent illustrations by Ilon Wikland record every detail, starting with a bustling kitchen scene where ginger snaps are being baked. No one ever seems to be standing still: From dancing around a Christmas tree to playing Blind Man's Bluff, the children are a blur of action and color. I take this book down from the shelf every December even though my children are grown. It's a Christmas tradition. A great read-aloud book: Please, read it again.
This book is a sweet look at the Christmases of yesteryear in Sweden. My mom's family is ALL from Sweden and I heard of many traditions when I was growing up. This book illustrates these traditions so nicely. The pictures are cozy, lovely, the children are of another generation ago, but somehow still quite relative to today's children. It's all about the excitment of it all!! For young children especially, this is a wonderful book for relishing the season!
