I have always loved the quote, "Jesus is the reason for the season" and one of my favorite images is Santa Claus kneeling over baby Jesus in the manger showing that even he knows the real reason Christmas is celebrated. These thoughts came to mind while reading Mukkove Johnson's book Christmas is About Jesus-An Advent Devotional. These devotions begin on December 1st and continue through Christmas Eve. For each devotional, Johnson takes traditional Christmas items like holly, Christmas lights, and cookies (just to name a few) and shares how each of these symbols can remind us of Jesus. She does this through scripture, prayer, and thought-provoking questions that are good to promote family discussions. I recommend Christmas is About Jesus for families who want to keep Christ in Christmas!

    I loved it!

Christmas is a time that is busy and bustling with so many activities it can be difficult to find time to focus on the real meaning of Christmas. If we do find a few minutes, it can be even more daunting to know where to begin teaching our children the life-changing truths about Jesus Christ's birth. Mukkove Johnson recognized this challenge and authored the children's book Christmas is About Jesus: An Advent Devotional as a tool to help meet this need.

I love this book. I love the idea behind the book and the purpose for the book. I think Mukkove did an excellent job putting together a resource to bring parents and children together each day during the month of December to share one important truth about Jesus Christ. Each day's readings are brief, to hold the attention of even small children. The book easily relates items that we see or associate with Christmas and then shares a Biblical truth that kids can easily remember and think about each time they see that item during the season. Who knew that Christmas ornaments, snow, and caroling could be used as tools to teach children about the purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ?

I am so looking forward to sharing this book together with my children this coming December and if you have children or grandchildren, I highly recommend this book. Thank you Mukkove for the opportunity to review your book!

    The Real Story of Christmas

Christmas Is About Jesus is a wonderful advent devotional that should be in the home of everyone who wants to bring Christ back into Christmas. Mukkove Johnson has done a marvelous job of taking many of the customs that normally surround Christmas in our culture and used them to reveal Christ in a fresh way. Young and old alike will find this devotional a wonderful addition to their celebration of Christ our Savior. It is an honor to recommend this book to you.
