A Perfect Gift for the Readers on Your List.
As an Amanda Cabot fan, I’ve enjoyed her last three releases. However, I’m a reader who bases expectation on past reads but judges the current book on its own merit.
CHRISTMAS ROSES is a historical romance without Cabot’s usual element of suspense. Still, this one grabbed my heart and held tight, page after page. I worried about six-month-old Emma’s cough and shared Celia’s relief when a stranger arrived who knew how to treat the croup. I felt her loneliness and longing for romance.
As her year of mourning neared its end, two men in the mining town vied for her hand in marriage. Either would offer financial security and be a father for Emma. But, Celia wanted something more. Her parents arranged her marriage to Josef, a marriage without love or courtship. Now, she longed for romance and the kind of love she’d read about in books; but as the parson’s wife kept insisting, Emma needed a father. Still, as impossible as it seemed that winter in Montana Territory, Celia dreamed of a man who would give her roses for Christmas.
When I read the last page and closed the book, I leaned back with a satisfied sigh. It was that good! What more can I say? Except, Amanda Cabot brought the characters in this book to life. I feel I know them, and I’ll remember them from time to time.

Christmas Roses is a wonderfully charming story that will bring tears to your eyes and make you smile. Celia's young daughter needs a father--but Celia isn't sure she wants to marry again. Mark is a man on a mission. He agrees to work on Celia's boardinghouse in exchange for room and board, but he won't be in town for long--unless he finds the person he's been seeking for over two years. The lives of these two needy people intertwine, but will Mark's mission send him away, just when Celia decides she wants him to stay?
You'll love this engaging story and want to make reading Christmas Roses an annual event.

I'm not usually one to read novellas. The word count can make it tricky to tell a full story. There was something about the idea of this historical where a widow isn't looking for a husband -- unless there's a man who can find her roses in the middle of a Wyoming winter. Celia Anderson has several suitors, but she's really content providing for her daughter and caring for her boarders. Then a carpenter wanders into town on a mission to find his father. In this man who is sensitive to her needs she sees what being cared for could be. But she wants someone who understands her soul, too.
This is a sweet story. It doesn't take long to read, but felt full and rich -- not easy to do within the limitations of a novella. The setting is real, the characters varied, and the romance just right. If you're one who loves Christmas stories, you must read this one. And if you love a sweet romance, then you'll also enjoy Christmas Roses.

Amanda Cabot has written a good reminder of what Christmas is. Loved how the Reverend references Joseph. Makes you think, and sure made Mark think.
This is the story of forgiveness and finding peace. It is also a really sweet love story. Loved the interactions with the sweet Baby Emma.
As we travel this journey you have to wonder where anyone would find Roses for Christmas. Celia Anderson's is a young widow, she loved her husband, but hers was an arranged marriage. She makes a statement that she would only marry for "love" and she must have Roses for Christmas?
Don't miss this page turning read, and enjoy the messages presented.

I have read a number of Amanda Cabot's books before and have loved them all. This one is special to my heart and it will be a book that I keep to reread repetitively, for a lot of reasons.
I, like Celia, love roses. And I love Christmas.
Anyway, I knew as soon as I saw the title I wanted to read this book. Roses at Christmastime in 1882? How is that possible? It is and Amanda made me a believer. I'm not going to give it away as I hate spoilers. You'll just have to read it to believe it.

Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot was my first new Christmas book of the season to read, and I found it to be delightful. Set in Wyoming Territory in 1882 it weaves the tale of Celia Anderson, young widow trying to make ends meet, and raise her infant daughter on her own. She doesn't see a need for a new husband, unless she can find one who will love her and be spontaneous enough to bring her roses in December - not an easy feat when she lives in a cold and snowy land.
Mark Williams has no intention on staying more than a night or two in the sleepy little town of Easton, in Wyoming Territory. In fact, he is only there in hopes of finding his delinquent father. He has been searching for over two years and believes that his search may finally come to an end. Helping the young widow with a sickly infant, and a snowstorm delay his plans to leave.
I found this book to be a quick and enjoyable read, and was disappointed when it was over.

Previously I had read Paper Roses by the same author. It was a sweet story so I was not hesitant about reading another selection by Amanda Cabot. Christmas Roses was just as good as the other book. I love her characters.

This was a very touching story about love and trust and marrying the right person. Set in the 1800's, a widow must decide to marry a man for practical reasons, who she does not love, or wait for the right man, who she does love. The stranger in town soon wins her over in this heartwarming tale. It is set at Christmas time, but is a good read any time of the year. No bad language, suitable for any age.

This is a great quick read, but well written. If you don't fall in love with the characters in this book, you never will fall in love with any characters in a book. Long lasting memories after reading this book. I want Christmas Roses!

I love Christmas romance stories, but it takes a very special story to make me want to give it as a gift to friends and family. Amanda Cabot is one of those authors who makes the characters in her books feel as alive as our neighbor next door. The small mining town in 1882 Wyoming Territory is the perfect place for Mark, an itinerant carpenter and widow Celia Anderson to meet and fall in love. Mark may seem too good to be true, but he's the spittin' image of my husband. Mark's anticipation of Celia's needs, his forward thinking to what would please her and enchant her daughter, are not a fairy tale. There are men in the world like that. You'll be delighted with the recipe for Swedish Pound Cake. We all expect a Christmas miracle, one that we can tuck in our hearts for the year ahead, even if it happens for someone else. About the time you think that there can't be another successful variation on a Christmas romance theme, Ms. Cabot slips in a delightful twist. You'll walk away with your own bouquet of Christmas Roses when Celia whispers, "Mama was right, Christmas is the season of miracles."

I wanted to know how they were going to work through their baggage and romantic barriers. Their story didn't disappoint. Amanda Cabot has once again delivered a compelling, heart-warming love story perfect for Christmas. I recommend getting a copy and settling in for a pleasant, satisfying read. You'll smile all the way to Christmas.

It is 1882 in the Wyoming Territory and winter is upon them. The Widow Anderson and her infant are trying to make a go of running the local boarding house as a source of income. But alas, there are virtually no boarders. Celia's baby is sick and she is alone and panicking.
I was not prepared for the beauty that flowed through this little book. Charming word pictures of children. Personalities coming across in full bloom - their quirks, their attitudes, their good features and their bad. The little town with it's warmth and love shinning through - especially in the Pastor and his wife.
This is a story of finding. Finding one's place. Finding forgiveness. Finding the gift of forgiveness. Finding love. Truly a full-blooming rose of a tale for you to enjoy.
