Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The Pigglytoes family has different ideas about what makes Christmas special, but baby piglet understands that it doesn't come wrapped in a box. A.J. Wood's rhyming text and Maggie Kneen's illustrations, with foldout flaps and sparkling foil, combine to form The Christmas Surprise. (Oct.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2-A middle-class, English-looking pig family celebrates the various customs and traditions of Christmas, with one large flap per spread (on heavy cardstock) that opens to reveal a corresponding illustration. Finely detailed pictures portray Mr. and Mrs. Pigglytoe, their six busy piglets, and an old-fashioned cozy house. The rhymed text is stilted and does not scan well; the surprise of the title is a somewhat anticlimactic "Snowy Christmas Day." Die-cuts and colored, sparkly papers abound, but they and the engaging pictures fail to redeem an uninspired text.-S. P. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

One you don't mind re-reading again, and again

This book is beautifully illustrated and keeps the child's interest with sparkles and flaps to open. I love the author's rhyming poetry too!
