Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5Andrew Sachs reads Peter Dickinson's charming story BDD, 1996 about Chuck, the whippet, and his owner, Danielle. Each chapter is a different episode in their adventures. Chuck is presented as the lovable, though somewhat neurotic dog that she isafraid of toilets flushing and even falling teddy bears. The author's omniscient point of view lets us understand Chuck. We learn, for instance, why Chuck feels compelled to lap certain human faces. Meanwhile, Danielle is a child completely devoted to her dog and on a mission to reassure her mom that Chuck should remain a permanent member of the family. The story comes alive with Sachs' spirited reading.Marcia Brightman, Mark's Meadow Laboratory School, Amherst, MA

    A Whippet In A Book

A book with a Whippet made my daughter happy, but wasn't thrilled with the overly neurotic tongue-in-cheek depiction of the breed. An enjoyable light read for preteens.
