In June 2004, Sum 41 was in Congo filming a documentary for charity when they found themselves caught in the midst of the country's ongoing hostilities. But a UN aid worker named Chuck Pelletier was instrumental in getting the band to safety, and a grateful Sum 41 named their fourth album in his honor. As they say in their liners, "Without him, we'd be dead. Chuck rules!" The experience also seems to have mellowed the group's sarcastic streak. All Music Guide - Johnny Loftus
From its aggressive metal and hardcore overtones to lyrics that rail against societal ignorance and a world gone wrong, Chuck is a few steps ahead of the smirking, jocular anthems that populated Sum 41's previous output. This suddenly sober outlook hasn't lessened the rock power, though. "Why is there no reason we all can't change?" Deryck Whibley wonders in "No Reason," but the cut also binds the rapid-fire pace of hardcore to a great chorus hook. Lead single "We're All to Blame" lashes out at greed with some vicious metal riffing, "Bitter End" takes its cues from the double-bass kicks and furious lead solos of Anthrax, and "There's No Solution"'s layered vocals, psychological fretting, and explosive chorus shift give it a Linkin Park feel. Sum 41 also avoids employing too many "serious" add-ons, such as string sections or synthesizers. Chuck does have a few passages of acoustic guitar most effectively on the low-key "Slipping Away". But like Sum 41's previous efforts, it's a concise album that clocks in at just over a half-hour, with a basic understanding that fast and loud is what the band does best. But this time around, Sum 41 has made sure to set its message at the same high volume.
Rolling Stone - Shirley Halperin
With Chuck, Sum 41 have pulled off a truly impressive knucklehead stunt: They've managed to grow up a little and still have something to say.
Entertainment Weekly - Michael Endelman
Sum 41's heady CD is miles from rhyming about "drinking in the back of an El Camino," and it's a big gamble for a band whose fans expect easily digestible three-minute blasts of pranks and parties. (B+)

    Best band ever

Sum 41 is the best band ever and this album proves the point even more. With heavier songs like We're all to Blame and I'm not the One and softer ones like Pieces this album is well balanced. Honestly one of the best albums I've ever heard.

    Their best album so far!!

After the release of Sum 41's record "Does this look infected?", released in 2002, people started to wonder how they're third record would be like. Being a fan myself, I feel the two long years wait were absolutely worth it. Sum 41's third album, "CHUCK", has everything you could demand music to be: good guitars, various melodies, energic drums and much more. Although they claim they are still the same, you can sense they've matured a lot not only as persons since they're lyrics reach issues by far more complex than the other albums, but also as artists experimenting with different melodies and instruments. If you like this band, you will definitively not want to miss this record; it's a 'must have' for all the Sum 41 fans and people who like this kind of music.

    Chuck Rocks!

They just keep getting better with every album! Although more mature than their previous efforts, Chuck has their signature style of being fast and loud. Check out 88 and you'll see what I mean!

    awesome

this cd rocks. it may sound trite and exactly what most of the critics are saying, but sum41 has gone a long way musically since their first cd. the songs are more mature, yet they still have that catchy vibe we all love.

    The Best Yet !!!

we all know sum41 came from the punk genre, but now the boys have grown up a lot. this cd is a perfect reflection of how these punk rockers loose their immaturity and see the world for what it really is.CHUCK has a real "hard rock/soft metal" sound to it.

    Wow! Good Work Guys!

Definitely an amazing album. The music is much heavier, going back to the band's original musical influences in metal. The lyrics on this album are much more serious and matured, taking punches at society's downfalls with a more political edge than their previous albums. Get the album and see for yourself!

    Chuck = new, mature sound

Obviously, Sum 41 has grown up and has started to make thier own awesome, raw sound. Props to them for making another exceptional album, which touches on new, slightly controversial subjects, and capturing a whole new audience.

This cd shows what Sum should be really sound like. The new sound is great. They used to sound like punk posers, but im glad theyve matured. I reccommend this album to anyone who hated Sum 41 before for theyre sound.
