The idea behind this book series sounds pretty solid. Sadly, when I recieved the book in the mail it I felt nothing but disappointment after opening the box. The chinese, written in pinyin, does not indicate which tones the words require. Since the Chinese language revolves around tones, the vocabulary introduced in the book is practically worthless since the learner does not know which tones to use. Second, the audio CD is terrible. The narrator reads at an insanely quick pace which children, who this book is intended for, would find it hard to keep up even if the entire book was in English. It is also obvious that the did one take of the story and then just inserted the Chinese words later. This just further breaks the flow and sounds cheap and tacky. And one final insult, the book promises to teach twenty new words...but only has 18. I just felt ripped off.
