The Cinderella Society

Cute title, cute idea, but not sure if it was a cute delivery

The message behind The Cinderella Society is a positive one that should be shared with all girls. It encourages self-esteem, character, love for self and others, and hard work with a promise of a happily-ever-after (boyfriend not included). While the concept for The Cinderella Society is attractive and undeniably wonderful, the characters and story left me wanting. I thought there was too much emphasis in the details of the Cinderella Society and not enough time spent on interactions between the characters to move the story along. I hope that the sequel will flesh out Jess and the other characters since the stage has been set.

AWESOME

i bought the actual book and its one of my new favorite books! its so good , i read it all in one night . And i cant wait till the second one comes out ! and i also lent it to two of my closest friends and they loved it too!

Wonderful

Jess Parker has hit the high school lottery by being welcomed into Cinderella Society. Thank goodness for that because she just hit Lexy's radar. I loved the idea of this book. I think it is a great influence on a lot of teens. It shows what true friendship could mean. Jess Parker may still have some thing to over come but at heart you can tell she wants to do what's right. I still feel deep down that Lexy can't be ALL bad. I also have a feeling in the next series Jess may have her hands full. Especially dating Lexy's brother. What a fresh idea for girl empowerment. I plan on reading all the Cinderella Society books as they release.

Girl Power Baby

This book is all about girls taking charge and fighing for what they believe in. It is for the girl who knows what she wants will not stop to achieve it!!

Highly Recommended

The Cinderella Society is a an amazing and inspiring book for all teenage girls that might be struggling at school in social life or even the most popular girls in school. This book is inspiring because it teaches girls how to survive in high school so even though you might think your a nobody anything could happen. As in you think you are invisible and feel no one knows your even alive. But really they people know your there and they could actually want to be your friend and like you. That is the amazing part of the book, that you get that feeling that anything can happen and your not alone in the world, you¿ll always have those sisters. You will always have your own Cinderella Society, your own Cindy¿s to always have your back. Even though there are always going to be those Wickeds against you, but that will be your mission to complete throughout your life. Sometimes you will have to be the leader and stand up for the normal people who might not be as popular as you, and honestly they will be so happy that you would do that for them. Overall just like Jess is going through her life one step at a time helping one Reggie at a time and defeating one Wicked at a time life will all sort out in the end.

Not For Someone Who Is Expecting What The Title Says

This book is a great book but it is not what the title says. Really it has nothing to do with Cinderella. It is a very challenging book. I would recommend this book to someone who either wants to read a book just for fun or for someone who is into cheer, having self confidence, and helping other people in trouble and stuff like that. If you plan to read this book assume that it is about what the title of the book is. Overall i liked this book but it wasn't all that great

Amazing!!!

Only two words can describe this book series amazingand inspirational. This book features some very strong female heroines and also a few evil ones too. There are two core societies in this book the Cinderella's, aka the Cindy's, and the Wicked. The Cindy's consist of a group of strong independent young women who choose to inspire and lift people up, instead of being a mean wicked and constantly getting a high in putting people down.

This book is a must read due to intriguing storyline of the main character, Jess Parker. Jess is a strong individual who stands up for the weak. In the beginning of the book, she would be classified as a loner or outcast in her high schools hierarchy. She is constantly berated by the wicked. When she finally finds her voice , it is then that her true journey can begin.

The Cinderella Society is a group of strong women that have fought the battle of good vs. evil for centuries. Personally, I wish I could join a group like the Cindy's. Kay Cassidy has put a new spin on a classic tale, where good can prevail over evil. I can not wait for the next book in this powerful series.

A Fun Girl-Power Book

I'll begin with Jess, the protagonist, and my favorite character. She was a great character for a few reasons. She was smart, and she had flaws. At the start of the book, Jess is fairly self-conscious, and is skeptical when the popular girls include her in their yearly sleepover. As the book progresses, Jess becomes more confident, and sure of herself. Cassidy did a great job of making Jess easy to relate to. Even as a senior in college, I was able to understand and sympathize with some of her insecurities.

Lexy, Jess's archenemy, is one of the Wickeds. Unlike the Cindys (the society in which Jess belongs), the Wickeds don't think about the consequences of their actions, and thrive on manipulation. In short, they're bullies. I'll admit that Lexy does her fair share of cruel things over the course of the story, but I had a hard time hating her. In fact, some information is revealed toward the end of The Cinderella Society that actually made me pity her. Lexy was the younger sister of Ryan, the prince charming of the story. He was an interesting character, too. He seemed to be the perfect, popular, chivalrous guy, but he had some secrets and insecurities of his own.

The plot was definitely unique, and Cassidy was able to promote kindness, community service, friendship, and self-love. She managed to do all this without preaching to the reader. Personally, I finished the book with a few ideas about how I could be more like a Cindy. I'll be trying to cut back on my Wicked Chatter (gossip, putting others/myself down), and using The Rule of Fives when something embarrassing or stressful happens. The one thing I would have liked to see more of is the wickeds. Readers get to see how they manipulate others through Lexy, but I wish I knew more. I'd really have liked to see into Athena, the headquarters of the Wickeds. I'm confident that we'll get to see more about them in the sequel, so it didn't detract from my reading.

Overall, I loved this book. The characters were realistic, and relatable. No character was perfect, and Jess wasn't a damsel in distress. I personally think that girls today are socialized to be self-deprecating. Honestly, how many of you say, or hear friends say "I'm so fat". It was refreshing to read a book with some great girl-power messages. This is definitely one I'll be passing on to my teen sister, and my friends.

A great message about friendship and being yourself

When I finished The Cinderella Society, I wanted to hug it and then give it to every girl I know.

It's a fabulous book. Full of strong messages about empowerment, friendship, being true to yourself, helping others and making a difference with your actions rather than looking the other way.

Jess is a great main character. Her reaction, to being recruited as a Cindy, is a mixture of utter awe and excitement and utter terror that they picked the wrong girl. I was rooting for her, cheering for her and cringing for her, throughout the book. She's also incredibly funny. I loved her comments on events and other characters, and she narrates the best first date scene I think I've read. I giggled and emphasized throughout it.

The other characters are interesting too. I liked that Ryan, Jess' swoon worthy crush, had his own issues and demons to deal with (and hoo-ray for boys being mean to girls and totally being called on it!*) I also liked that Lexy, Jess's Wicked counterpart and Ryan's little sister (oooh I sense drama in book2!), wasn't shown in a completely negative light. Yes she's mean, but Kay shows how she might have gotten that way.

I highly recommend you go and order a copy of The Cinderella Society today or come back tomorrow to try and win a copy!

The Cinderella Society

The Cinderella Society is not Cinderella's alternate version, it's more like the idea of what the Cinderella story represents . and I explain; since its first version, the Cinderella story has meant for many girls the possibility that dreams can come true. Having a message against high school cliques and a strong girl power support, Cassidy delivers us her first novel. Jess, the main character and story narrator, is not a common girl; she's an extraordinary girl that doesn't realize her potential and capacity for a handful of situations from the beginning of the story. She has never felt part of a group and she's constantly verbally assaulted by her foe Lexy, her crush's Ryan sister . until the day she receives a particular invitation. It is there where she'll find not only friends, but also a secret that has been part of two family generations and many influential women around the world. I really enjoyed how the author worked the structural part of the story and character development. In this last aspect, it's incredible how Cassidy presents these wonderful characters to us: the "cindys" and the "charmings", but it takes us far away from this perfection version and it's molded in a realistic way that can be measured in real terms, a very admirable aspect from the author in my humble opinion. The reader could have a general idea on what this society consists of and the end is although there will be much more to discover in the already scheduled sequel. With an entertaining, original and inspirational story, The Cinderella Society will make girls, youngsters and adults wish for a fairy godmother who recites the next magic phrase: Welcome to the Sisterhood!

Modern-twist on a classic fairy tale.

THE CINDERELLA SOCIETY, by Kay Cassidy, created a modern twist on the classic story of a diamond in the rough rising above negativity to land her Prince Charming. But in high school,it is a bit more complicated than that.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. Kay Cassidy completely reinvented Cinderella to contemporary times. The drama was intensified and the fight against evil was not as easy as a wicked stepmother and stepsisters.

Jess Parker just wanted to get through high school doing what she loved, cheerleading. But in her case, cheerleading did not make her popular. She was constantly being bullied, which lowered her self-esteem. And her lack of confidence prevented her from taking initiative against her tormentors. With the help of some 'fairy-godmothers', Jess received the guidance she was looking for, just in time.

The major themes in this book certainly concern everyone in high school at some point. At that age, teens are insecure and vulnerable to the situations that surround them each day, and survival of the fittest definitely holds true. Bullies do not make this transition to adulthood any easier, but serve as a towering obstacle that could make or break you. The Wicked's were a jump back in time to my high-school days, where girls could be ruthless for no reason. But these heartless acts feed into their own insecurities. They were definitely a force to be reckoned with.

I loved the Cinderella-like transition that Jess went through in this book. This 'fantasy' journey through her physical and psychological makeover make this story enchanting. And the support system that these girls created was incredible and inspiring. The Cindy's worked hard within their organization to create the best version of themselves. This book is a great pathway for young teen girls to follow to achieve anything they dream.

The relationship between Jess and Ryan was a great example of real-life relationships, which are not always perfect. Ryan was extremely sweet and kind-hearted but only when they were alone. And since Jess was on sensory overload with her metamorphosis, her fear of rejection from Ryan clouded her goals within the Cinderella Society. I appreciated the fact that Cassidy veered off the typical young-adult-book path and did not make it easy between these two. Great relationships take work and effort to be successful, but in the end it is well worth it. I was happy for the change in pace and the realistic nature of this couple, it kept my heart-pounding in anticipation of whether or not they would make it.

Overall, the ideas that this book encompassed were utterly fantastic. The drive to succeed after learning to accept yourself is an excellent framework for young adults. The ability to get passed physical insecurities to shape your mind is a great asset. I give two major thumbs up to this book and I cannot wait for the sequel!

Girl Power ROCKS!

Jess is the career new girl, but when she moves back to her mother's home town, she might have just found a place she can call home while starting the journey to find herself. Jess is a wonderfully realistic character. Kay has done a great job of balancing Jess's successes and setbacks. Jess is not 100% perfect once she becomes a Cindy (Cindy is what the members of The Cinderella Society call themselves - they are "Cindies" or "a Cindy"); she makes bad choices along the way just like anyone does. But Jess learns for those mistakes and she becomes a better Cindy and person because of it. I can't wait to continue reading about Jess's journey.

This book is not only about Jess, it's about this great society, The Cinderella Society. TCS is a great organization that helps empower girls and fights against the Wickeds. This is a fictional society, but as you read the book, you realize it's something we can all do in our own lives. TCS gives Jess and it's members the tools to be the best you can bee, but it's how you use those tools determine where you go in life.

Kay has also created some great side characters! Jess's love interest, Ryan Steele, is also on his own journey. He's the brother of Jess's arch-enemy, and has his own demons to work through. We also meet some of Jess's Cindy Sisters. They are not just 2 dimensional background characters, we learn bits about them that make you care for them as much as you do for Ryan and Jess. Even the Wickeds get their time to be explained beyond the fact that they are just the bad guys. Kay has done a great job of really exploring the lives of all her characters and I'm super excited for book 2, Cindy on a Mission, out in spring 2011.
