Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Belle and Caruso-Scott reduce Cinderella’s tale to just 14 brief words and phrases in a board book that opens the Les Petits Fairytales series, along with Snow White. “Girl,” reads the opening spread, as the blonde heroine in tattered dress mops the floor. The words chores, mean stepsisters, fairy godmother, and magic wand follow; Lake’s clean digital artwork (necessarily) does significant narrative heavy lifting, taking Cinderella to the “Ball” and home again, with “Marriage” in store once she gets her “Glass Slipper” back. Reminiscent of Gibbs Smith’s Baby Lit series, it’s an impressively succinct introduction to favorite tales. Ages 1–3. (Oct.)

Children's Literature - Suzanne Javid
It is never too early to read to children. This classic fairytale is told in a petite first edition for little readers. Clear, colorful, bright and uncluttered illustrations help reinforce the eighteen words in the story. The two-page spreads with one to two words on each and an appealing touch-and-feel cover make this a welcoming opportunity for little ones to hear the voices of loved ones introducing a favorite. The book becomes a wonderful interactive story as the brief text allows for a variety of narration and retelling as well as the addition of number concepts. Toddlers will enjoy hearing and imitating new vocabulary such as "chores, carriage, glass slipper, and midnight." Other titles in the "Les Petits Fairytales" series include Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty. Wonderful, wonderful. This book will have parents, teachers and librarians asking, "Why didn't I think of that?" A series which demonstrates how easy, simple words can be introduced to young children. Enchanting to say the least! Reviewer: Suzanne Javid
