Inside you is the power to do anything

When seven babies are born without shadows, the fairies fear that humankind might be losing its closest companions!

Cinnabar and her friends have to travel by elf magic to reach the mysterious and secret Island of Shadows to try and locate the lost shadows. But, as if that is not hard enough, Madam Toad fears the shadows are not just misplaced, but stolen! Fortunately, the King and Queen of the Shadowmakers-and even their Griffin-are ready to help fight whatever is responsible.

But the fairies will have to work fast. Without the magical protection of shadows, all of mankind will soon be defenseless.

Meet the Author

J.H. Sweet has always looked for the magic in the everyday. She has an imaginary dog named Jellybean Ebenezer Beast. Her hobbies include hiking, photography, knitting, and basketry. She also enjoys watching a variety of movies and sports. Her favorite superhero is her husband, with Silver Surfer coming in a close second. She loves many of the same things the fairies love, including live oak trees, mockingbirds, weathered terra-cotta, butterflies, bees, and cypress knees. In the fairy game of "If I were a jelly bean, what flavor would I be?" she would be green apple. J.H. Sweet lives with her husband in South Texas and has a degree in English from Texas State University.

Holly Sierra's illustrations are visually enchanting with particular attention to decorative, mystical, and multicultural themes. Holly received her fine arts education at SUNY Purchase in New York and lives in Myrtle Beach with her husband, Steve, and their three children, Gabrielle, Esme, and Christopher.

    High Flying Fun!

This is high flying fairy fun and a grand day out for Cinnabar and her friends. Unfortunately, they aren't out just to have fun because they must solve a large human problem - that of missing shadows that were supposed to be delivered to newborn babies. The girls and mentors (older fairies) travel to the Island of Shadows to unravel the mystery and fix the problem. They have an exciting stand off with the Demon of Light and a Chimera. If you are looking for magic, excitement and adventure, you can't go wrong with Cinnabar and the Island of Shadows, recommended for readers ages 7-13.

    Recommended

I recommend this book because it is a quick and enjoyable read. The magic of the book is not 'out of reach' for us mainly because the story starts out in the real world and keeps connecting us back there. We do find out magical reasons why we have a shadow, but we can easily imagine that the reasons might be real. I recommend this book for ages six to ten. I plan to purchase a copy for my young niece who is five for Christmas. I think she will grow into this book.
