School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-4Stille clearly explains the basic principles of the circulatory system in very simple terms, avoiding technical words whenever possible. Rookie readers should be able to handle this book independently; the information is all relevant to the subject. The crisp, full-color photos and diagrams, placed near the text, are used to optimal effect. In addition to anatomy and physiology, there are chapters about heart attack and how to stay healthy. Lists of additional resources, organizations, and Internet sites are appended. This title fills the gap between Paul Showers's A Drop of Blood (HarperCollins, 1989) and Carol Ballard's more challenging The Heart and Circulatory System (Raintree/Steck-Vaughn, 1997).Martha Gordon, formerly at South Salem Library, NY
