More About This Book

Overview

Twenty years ago, the dead destroyed the world of the living. The survivors scattered in the wake of the Scourge, erecting small towns in the worlds' most sparsely populated areas.

For young Gabriel, the walking dead are merely the memories that haunt the eyes of those old enough and lucky enough to have survived. He is more concerned with his hard life in America's desert, where his chores keep him busy and the husks of books stashed beneath the cellar of the library are his only freedom.

Until the circus comes to town.

"Circus of the Dead" is a novelette of approximately 10,748 words.

"Finally, a zombie story for the thinking man! This story reads as much like literary fiction as it does horror. The zombie scourge seems to exist if only to symbolize man's great desires to keep weapons of impending doom close at hand and the zealotry needed to set them free. Blackburn creates atmosphere so real you'll need to swish the dust from your teeth when you're done! A welcomed change in a genre that seems done to death."

-- Stefan Bourque, author of "My Name Is Joe" & "Juggler"

    Not what I expected...

I have to say that this story suprised me too (like the previous reviewer). I expected a run of the mill zombie tale...all blood and guts...but what I got was much more. The author took the opportunity to turn the story into a lesson of how one action can turn your entire life inside out. I say...Give this short story a chance...I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    More please.

This was a great zombie story. I couldn't put it down. I wish it was longer and I hope there are other stories out there from this author.

I actually liked this story. It wasnt all blood and gore it let you see what was happening with each word as if you had actually seen what had occured.

    Short and sweet.

Can't complain too much because it is a free book, but it is more of a short story than anything. I'm an avid reader, and my appetite was not satisfied. Was ok, but very short.

    Good Read

It was an interesting twist of the post-apocalypsitic world. I think the author could have went further with the story line than he did but what was there was interesting and well written. Looking forward to more written by this author.

I'm a hard sell on zombie books because I have a hard time being

I'm a hard sell on zombie books because I have a hard time being lured into that world. This author did an exceptional job of creating all of the desire to go to the circus for ME that he was creating for the characters in the book. Thrilling, dangerous, and ultimately realized as it should have been.
