Boxed Set/Cirque du Freak

This is a more thrifty way to read the first four Cirque du Freak books. The first book, which introduces the series, is entertaining, macabre and touchingly human. The other three books are almost as entertaining/macabre but lack the pathos of the first. I heartily recommend this boxed set.

SO MUCH FUN TO READ! BUT....

I BOUGHT THIS SERIES YEARS AGO FOR MY OLDEST SON WHEN HE WAS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. HIS TEACHER SUGGESTED IT TO HIM. HE HATED READING. THESE BOOKS GOT HIM GOING! WE HAD TO SEARCH FOR THEM, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT ALL RELEASED AT THAT TIME IN THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS FUN TO SEE HIM REALLY GETTING INTO IT. I WAS BORED ONE DAY AND PICKED UP THE FIRST ONE TO START READING IT ONCE AGAIN. I HAD THUMBED THROUGH IT BEFORE. I HAVE READ 4 OF THE SERIES ALREADY IN JUST A FEW DAYS.

NOW I HAVE READ SOME REVIEWS STATING IT IS GREAT READING FOR KIDS. I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN. MY OLDEST SON, NOT A PROBLEM WHEN HE WAS READING THE SERIES. HE ENJOYED BEING SCARED AND WAS THE FIRST TO SAY LET'S GO THE HAUNTED HOUSE. HOWEVER, MY YOUNGER ONES? THEY WON'T BE READY AT LEAST UNTIL 7TH GRADE FOR THESE BOOKS. I HAVE A 2ND GRADER THAT IS SEVERAL GRADES ABOVE HIS READING LEVEL AND COULD TAKE ON THESE BOOK WITHOUT A PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT FOR HIM.

ALL IN ALL, IF YOU ARE TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING TO GET THAT CHILD THAT HATES TO READ A SERIES TO GET INTO, THIS WOULD BE THAT SERIES. IT IS AMAZING AND NOT TOO AWFUL SCAREY, BUT UNDERSTAND IT IS ABOUT VAMPIRES. NOT GROSS, BUT IT FEELS SO REAL IT MAY JUST SCARE THEM?

I LOVE THEM!!!

    I Also Recommend:

    Great for All Ages

These books are a light, basic reading level. The plot is not too complex, so younger readers are able (and willing) to hack through it. But it isn't just for the kids. This book gives us a wonderful new insight to the lives of vampires. In fact, it makes you feel like its all true.

Darren Shan takes a new perspective on the classic vampire tales. It's original and thrilling.

    for parents

My 11 year old son, who really did not like to read and considered it boring, absolutely loves these books!!! I am so glad for the recommendation ' kudos to the Burlington, NC B&N'. My son is now reading for fun and is actually starting to read classical literature. Parents who are despairing on how to encourage their sons to read, buy these books to open their imagination and to begin a life long love affair with books.

Book 1 is how it all started with Darren and Steve when they go to the freak show on a night they'll never forget. Book 2 continues with Darren's new life with his new family leaving his past behind him. Book 3 is about Darren and his new friend Evra the snake boy as they with Larten head to a town to investigate killings where Darren also falls in love. This series is one of my favorite and always wanted a story or book series about a scary circus ever since watching Stephen King's It and that are you afraid of the dark episode with that creepy clown at the carnival where his nose was taken. classic.

    Awesome Book

At school, I saw one of my friends reading the first one, so I decided to read it, and I read it in 2 days! I guess because it was so suspenseful. Then my mom got me the 2nd one, and it was awsome. I really want the whole series!

    Hungry for more

This series is absoulutley fantastic, I could'nt set the books down for more than a couple minutes. This book leaves you with suspense but in gorifying detail. I would recomend this series to any one. It not very scary at all but i might not recomend this for younger children. I saw this book on a shelf in the libary one day thinking it was just some ordinary book. It looked good, something a little bit like a stephen king book(great books 'would definetly recomend'. But by my surprise this book was amazing. I was just hungry for more.

well, i managed to read 7, 8, 9, and 10 in a matter of about 11 hours give or take. i knew when i went to the library id have to get all of them to last me! these books end in such an unorderly manner it just makes you want to read more. not boring at all. Darren Shan is a wonderful author and i look forward to reading more of his future dark, twisted books!
