    more from this reviewer

They need to review this book again

I am studying CISA for the June exam. As I am going through this book (so far, I am half way through), I already found 3 small mistakes on the book. 1) Answer Key for Chapter 4 practice questions: Question 6. 2) the diagram of Six Phases of SDLC on page 255. 3) Page 287, question 3, what is "inerference"? They really need to do a thorough review of this book! Anyways, if you have an IT background, it's not hard to pick up those errors they have on the book. In addition, I feel like the book's explanation is good. However, the practice questions ask about things that were not covered in the book.

    My Daily Reference Manual

I needed a book that provided a good explanation on the OSI 7 layers and how it relates to the TCP/IP model. I found what I needed in this book. There are a lot of good diagrams with easy to understand descriptions and examples in user friendly terms. Plus, I am now working on a process improvement project at my company. The chapter on Business Process Reengineering has provided a lot of tips, definitions and questions that I have been successfully using in my current project.

Highly Recommended for CISA & CIS Professionals

I don't usually write reviews, but this book was way above what I expected in depth, application, and scope. It is both a training manual and in depth reference book with clear explanations and scenarios. I had earlier studied a competing manual, (the CISA review manual, 2004) and must say the new Cannon study guide is vastly superior. Specifically, this study guide has details, is clearly explained, has numerous diagrams, and approaches the chapter subjects from different angles. This is the definitive book for our profession for information protection, process organization and analysis. My highest recommendation.

CISA Exam Prep and Valuable IS Audit Career Guidance

I wish this book had been published back when I took my CISA exam. I picked up a copy to keep my self refreshed on current IS Audit concepts, and felt that it would be appropriate to pass along comment to anyone preparing for the CISA exam. Here's what the authors tell you on the first page: 'Our Goal is to take you through the CISA test better than anyone else by showing you the 'how and why' of IS Auditing.' That's a tough promise to fulfill, but this book follows-through just as promised. Here's why... 1) Real World Examples - the ISACA CISA manual doesn't have these, but you are expected to have IS auditor experience prior to taking the exam and applying for certification. It is very helpful to learn from others and their experiences. 2) Actual Study Aids and Mnemonics - helpful hints, flashcards, and memory tools that really work 3) Exam Essentials - summary of CISA concepts recommended for the exam at the end of each chapter 4) Sample Review Questions and Practice Exams that help set the 'tone' for the real test 5) Last, But Not Least: Professional Guidance - It is obvious that the authors have been there, done that. They try to point out the everyday pitfalls and issues that occur in the real world of information systems auditing. This is a great tool for review when you're out in the trenches, meeting with business process owners, communicating with external auditors, and trying to get your customer the most professional results possible.
