CCNP 3: Multilayer Switching Lab Companion

Reviewer: Glenn Bradley, Senior Network Engineer This companion book to the similarly titled course book is a necessity for those wanting to pursue a complete self study program. For those of you who have inherited hand me down books (read Catalyst OS) from ¿friends of friends¿, this text will supply the newer chassis and associated IOS information that you are missing. The labs move you through a logical complexity progression and I recommend following them sequentially. This may cover a lot of basic ground for some readers but, we can always stand some review when preparing for exams. Don¿t short yourself on that piece of information that might mean the difference between getting an answer right or wrong. The goal here is to establish a deeper understanding of the material than the CCNA level provides but primarily you want to pass the test. I found no glaring errors in the lab instructions, examples, figures or diagrams. This may sound pretentious but not all books I¿ve reviewed can earn this claim. The author has provided good solid information and the editors have made sure it is well presented. I would not recommend this book as a reference text without the accompanying course work. As a companion book, it is quite well done. In summary a solid, usable text that is beneficial for those pursuing their CCNP routing and switching certification. An excellent companion to the course book `CCNP Self-Study: Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks (BCMSN)¿.
