About the Author

Christy Mihaly wrote Free for You and Me: What Our First Amendment Means, and has written more than 25 other children’s books. Her 2020 educational civics series won Junior Library Guild gold standard designations. A former lawyer, Christy lives and writes in Vermont.

Catherine Stier is the author of more than 20 children's books including the Science Makes it Work picture book series and the Kirkus star-reviewed A Dog's Day chapter book series. She holds a master’s degree in reading and literacy and has served as a magazine writer, newspaper columnist, and writing instructor. Stier resides in San Antonio, Texas.


After years of freelancing as a graphic artist, Lynne Avril fell into illustrating children's books…and has done more than sixty-five, including The Wagons Ho! and If I Ran for President.


Neely Daggett is an Iranian American artist who lives just outside Portland, Oregon. She has a BA in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Colorado. Neely is currently illustrating several picture books and is a member of SCBWI.
Courtney Dawson grew up in Southern California with a love for drawing, reading, and most kinds of ice cream. She then moved to San Francisco, where she received her MFA from Academy of Art University. She loves rainy days and painting to Sam Cooke. Courtney currently lives in California with her family.

Manu Montoya was born in Colombia and has studied design and art direction in Colombia and at the Barcelona School of Design and Engineering in Spain. She now lives in Spain.
