Editorial Reviews

Roland Green
The Kaufmans, father Yogi and photographer son Steve, give us a splendid look at U.S. Navy supercarriers. The text introduces the history, tactics, and internal organization of these ships, which operate with a crew of about 6,000, and offers comments from crew members ranging from captain to cook. The book's selling point, though, is its magnificent, technically outstanding, well-reproduced photographs--a series of vivid images registering the sheer size and complexity of the supercarriers. Consider it an invaluable acquisition for naval buffs as well as a fine primer on its subject for less-informed browsers.

A photographic tribute to naval air craft carriers captures their awesome power in vivid pictorial detail. The father and son photography team (Yogi is also a retired vice admiral) show how the crewman live, eat, sleep, and even have their dental checkups, along side the dramatic flight shots, afterburners flaming. The accompanying text highlights information about the size and construction of the floating cities, including interviews with crew. Lacks a bibliography and index. 9x12" Annotation c.
