Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Like the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, this book celebrates cats that live in the city and those that live in the country. The first half of the book describes a variety of tall, short, white and black cats in a variety of city settings. A nearly identical text in the second half of the book describes their country cousins. The engaging and colorful illustrations are key to helping beginning readers and will reinforce the concepts and the words. The text is lilting and easy to remember and should bring success to early readers. Part of the "Road to Reading" series, this is a Mile 1 book for kids who know the alphabet and are just beginning to read. Each book in the series contains guidance for parents and a description of what each of the five levels is designed to do. 1999 (orig. 1967), Golden Books, and $3.99. Ages 4 to 6.
