Overview

Fantasy Romance Epic.

The city is crumbling beneath a mountain of its own indulgences. Its army abuse the castle's servants, confident that deadly wielders have been exterminated; wars are fought to encourage otherwise absent mortality; countless people suffer from the terrible pangs of nalka, the hunger for intimacy; and all the while its king concerns himself with choosing which of his disappointing concubines to execute next. The duty falls upon his emotionally withdrawn son, Morghiad, to restore the city's strength and the army's purpose. In his attempts to do so, he uncovers darker horrors and encounters a young servant who could either be his greatest ally or his greatest hindrance.

City of Blaze is a story of changing allegiances, self-control and love.

Great opening book to what i hope is a great series. If you read this, it starts out slow and a lil confusing. Dont stop reading. Everything falls into place. Its 989 pages of must read adventure. I have never read a story of this type. Its delightfully new and addicting. Cant wait for the next book in the series

Wow! What a superb piece of literature. I've read a lot of fantasy series in my time - from the more obscure Malazan Book of the Fallen all the way up to Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire.. and I've got to say this is probably one of - if not THE - best series I've ever read. HOC develops his plot and characters with such mastery and finesse. Their plights are well thought out and engaging. The book takes twists and turns in all the right places, and the system of "magic" is unlike anything I've ever seen before. I literally could not put this book down. I read it in three days, the second book in two, and I read the third in four hours. I highly recommend that you take the time to AT least read the first one - after all it IS free. I guarantee you'll be coming back for the second and third.

This was a pretty amazing book with a little over 1000+ pages and talks about the struggle of a girl that went from servent to an important weapon to a respected and deeply loved soldier. This book has lots of unexpected twists and turns that will leave you at the edge of your seat and begging for more. It is very well written and had a plot that immediatly drag you in. I cant tell you how many times i've found myself picking up my nook to continue into another chapter to get a peek at what happens next only to be left unsatisfied because i wanted to find out more! The only problem i've had with this book was the infuriating cliffhanger at the end that made me itching for the next book. All in all this book was really enjoyable and was worth every second i spent on it!

This series is one of the best I've read in awhile! And even though the first one is free, the next three in the series are cheap and only $4.00!, and at least 1000 pages or more! Very good story and easy to read and highly addictive!!!!

This was a great book! Would've rated it the full 5 stars, but I thought there were a few important events in the book that didn't get enough detail. Overall, it was a fantastic read and I can't wait to start the others in the series.

Almost 1,000 pages and yet it is a cliffhanger ending. I am all for reading a series but geez at least have a definite ending to each book otherwise it is a serial not a trilogy, etc... Nothing over two stars for an author that does this...
