Overview

A fantastic setting for this memorable sweep through time, culture, and the quest for what love truly means.

Mercedes is a well-connected showgirl star who knows all about the perils of glamour and fame. A gorgeous Rumba dancer like her is lust after by every privileged politico in the country.

She is adept at fending them off.

Arturo is a handsome young industrialist so consumed by his work he has no idea who she is when their lives cross in the lounge car of the overnight express from Mexico City to Veracruz one steamy May night in 1943.

Arturo Fuentes is smitten.

A man moving up meets all kind of powerful people who can boost business prospects or change the course of a life. Can Arturo seize the opportunity an exciting, seductive city has on offer without falling prey to the grip of corruption and crime?

Colonel Carlos Serrano, the politically shrewd and ruthless Interior Secretary already has Arturo in his sights. Serrano is accustomed to getting what he is after and Arturo Fuentes owns something the Colonel wants.

Will any of them get what they want?

About the Author

D. Grant Fitter is a citizen of North America. Born in Ontario, Canada and educated in Colorado, USA, he is convinced he was Mexican in his previous life. How else to explain such a strong attraction to Mexico and all things Mexican, including his wife.

His business career includes long stints of work in Mexico before yielding to a pesky urge to pursue sports journalism for seventeen years. Meanwhile, Fitter's Mexican roots continued to call. City of Promises is the product of his curiosity to understand why the culture of our close neighbors is so distant from our own.

He lives in Toronto, surrounded by family and whenever possible, in the colonial town of Taxco, Guerrero.
