This book reads like a mystery, which is not what I expected when I first began. There's lots of adventure and plenty of odd, troublesome events that occur, but the action is lacking. But that is not an entirely bad thing, at least for City of the Dead. In other books this particular lack of action and sword-play etc. may cause problems for readers, but for this book, it is a great thing. It leaves room for plenty of suspense and it allows your mind to do the work, filling in the blanks like a puzzle. Like plenty of other books where pure brute force and show of arms saves the day, this book does not have it so...well, entirely. There is action, don't get me wrong, but the story itself does not require it in heavy doses. I enjoyed this book quite well, and I recommend it for a short thrill. Also, the writing is superb compared to most other Forgotten Realms books.

Set in the Forgotten Realms and taking those fun books to another level, with humor and an extremely original story.
