Excellent Start to an Exciting Series

    WARNING! SPOILERISH!

I've faithfully purchased and read many Anderson novellas and novels with mixed reactions. "Claimed" showcases the author's imaginative world-building and exceptional storytelling skills. It is destined to fare well with lovers of the sci-fi/fantasy erotic romance genre.

This is a good long read but it is worth every minute of your time. I enjoyed this story so much, I literally read until my eyes were too tired to perceive words anymore, put it away, and woke early the following day to finish it. It is a full-size novel (over 100K word count) and its length adds to its appeal. Anderson introduces a sympathetic hero and heroine, fascinating secondary characters, nifty alien technology, interplanetary politics and warcraft, and some truly funny culture shocks. I laughed, I frowned, I cheered for the ending, and bristled at the menacing baddies still lurking in the epilogue.

My enjoyment took a bit of a nosedive about three quarters into the read. Much as I really enjoyed Baird and Olivia, I felt their characterization suffered in places, especially towards the third quarter or so of the novel. They were both well-drawn characters, quite interesting and likeable, but some mistakes they make seem a bit too childish and simplistic. Example: Olivia gets lost in a "bad neighborhood" during her stay aboard Baird's ship. When accosted by several unmated males determined to bond with her, she makes no effort whatsoever to defend herself, just morphs into "damsel in distress." Supposedly all Kindred men love and revere women, but their attitude toward Olivia is no different than third-world human thugs encountering a potential rape victim. I would have felt deeper respect for the Kindred code of honor if the unbonded males rose above their "need to bond" and respected Olivia's prior claim to Baird. There was a definite imbalance of power and advantage between Baird and Olivia. I would have enjoyed seeing greater "team effort" between the two of them to function as a couple and a family. NOTE: the teamwork DOES come, eventually, but it would've been nice to see more of it earlier.

This novel contains explicit, graphic sex scenes, but the sex isn't overwhelming an interesting plot. There are some unique aspects to the sex due to some non-human traits in the Kindred males. I felt this was depicted tastefully and sensually.

The ending felt a little compressed, not annoyingly so. For the most part, editorial quality is pretty good, but there are some typos and word usage mistakes that might bug more particular readers. Example: "prophesy" isn't a noun, it's a verb, but it's routinely used instead of "prophecy." Given the size and content of this book, I did not regard the typos as excessive, but a bit more "polish" would have left this a five star rating. As it is, I can hardly wait for the next installment of this series.

    Should have dumped her.

Book started well but it went on and on and on about how he tried to do everything to give him a chance and she continued to reject him. Of course, after he sell his soul, then she realizes she love him. Should have just dumped her ...... it's one thing to fight for love, but not for 800 pages.

    great

800 pages of hot love scenes and a pretty good story. Entertaining, but not a "deep story with character development" that some reviewers want to see. This was a good book to entertain me, just what I was looking for.

    Enthralling

I loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series! I thought the author did a brilliant job of worldbuilding and plot and character development. The relationship between Olivia and Baird was riveting. The plot twists and turns were gripping. This is the first book I've read by this author and I was impressed!

    Excellant series!!

I'm reading the 3rd book in this series, and I love them so far!! The close relationship the characters have with their friends/family
was a great. I would recommend reading the books in order though. Its nice because this author does not repeat everything again in the following books, she introduces the "begining" of the next book from the previous one. You almost get two stories going, the main one; an a start of the next one.

    LOVELOVELOVE!!!

I love all good romance books but its very very rare to find a good, heartfelt si-fi romance. I could really feel a deep connection to Liv because if it was me i would be fighting to stay with the ones i love too. But personally i probably would not have lasted the first 300 pages with the way this kindered warrior did his seduction... can i say those scenes are Hot!
