Brides of the Kindred Book One—Claimed

Olivia Waterhouse has just graduated from nursing school and has her whole life ahead of her—until she gets drafted. Problem is, she isn’t being forced into the Army, she’s been chosen as a Kindred bride.

The Kindred are huge alien warriors—a race of genetic traders whose population is ninety-five percent male. After saving Earth from the threat of invasion they demand a reward—the right to find brides among the population. The chances of being chosen are about the same as those of winning the lottery—guess it’s just Liv’s lucky day.

Baird is a Beast Kindred who recently escaped imprisonment and torture at the hands of the malevolent Scourge. Through the torment and pain only one thing kept him sane—the thought of finding and claiming his bride—Olivia. His need to possess her is a burning intensity that threatens to consume them both.

Angry at having her future and her family taken away from her, Liv vows to fight back the only way she can—by resisting. She has one month on the Kindred Mothership with Baird—their claiming period. If she can keep from having bonding sex with him during that time, she can go home and get on with her life on Earth.

But Baird isn’t going to make it easy for her. Every week he is allowed to touch Liv more and more intimately and according to the contract she signed, she has to let him. She’s determined to resist him but his touch sets her on fire. And just as she thinks she knows what she wants, a twist of fate and an attack by the faceless Scourge AllFather changes everything…

WARNING! SPOILERISH! I've faithfully purchased and read many Anderson novellas and novels with mixed reactions. "Claimed" showcases the author's imaginative world-building and exceptional storytelling skills. It is destined to fare well with lovers of the sci-fi/fantasy erotic romance genre. This is a good long read but it is worth every minute of your time. I enjoyed this story so much, I literally read until my eyes were too tired to perceive words anymore, put it away, and woke early the following day to finish it. It is a full-size novel (over 100K word count) and its length adds to its appeal. Anderson introduces a sympathetic hero and heroine, fascinating secondary characters, nifty alien technology, interplanetary politics and warcraft, and some truly funny culture shocks. I laughed, I frowned, I cheered for the ending, and bristled at the menacing baddies still lurking in the epilogue. My enjoyment took a bit of a nosedive about three quarters into the read. Much as I really enjoyed Baird and Olivia, I felt their characterization suffered in places, especially towards the third quarter or so of the novel. They were both well-drawn characters, quite interesting and likeable, but some mistakes they make seem a bit too childish and simplistic. Example: Olivia gets lost in a "bad neighborhood" during her stay aboard Baird's ship. When accosted by several unmated males determined to bond with her, she makes no effort whatsoever to defend herself, just morphs into "damsel in distress." Supposedly all Kindred men love and revere women, but their attitude toward Olivia is no different than third-world human thugs encountering a potential rape victim. I would have felt deeper respect for the Kindred code of honor if the unbonded males rose above their "need to bond" and respected Olivia's prior claim to Baird. There was a definite imbalance of power and advantage between Baird and Olivia. I would have enjoyed seeing greater "team effort" between the two of them to function as a couple and a family. NOTE: the teamwork DOES come, eventually, but it would've been nice to see more of it earlier. This novel contains explicit, graphic sex scenes, but the sex isn't overwhelming an interesting plot. There are some unique aspects to the sex due to some non-human traits in the Kindred males. I felt this was depicted tastefully and sensually. The ending felt a little compressed, not annoyingly so. For the most part, editorial quality is pretty good, but there are some typos and word usage mistakes that might bug more particular readers. Example: "prophesy" isn't a noun, it's a verb, but it's routinely used instead of "prophecy." Given the size and content of this book, I did not regard the typos as excessive, but a bit more "polish" would have left this a five star rating. As it is, I can hardly wait for the next installment of this series.

I expected romance, not x-rated. This book has potential to be a great book. I loved the characters and story line. I read a lot of books. There are not many books that I have not finished, but this is one of them. I finally decided to stop reading it. All they talked about was dirty graphic sex. That's all this book was about. If that is what you like then this book is for you. Me, I like a good story and toned down romance. Some things need to be left to the imagination!

I'm reading the 3rd book in this series, and I love them so far!! The close relationship the characters have with their friends/family was a great. I would recommend reading the books in order though. Its nice because this author does not repeat everything again in the following books, she introduces the "begining" of the next book from the previous one. You almost get two stories going, the main one; an a start of the next one.

I really really liked this book. Once I started reading it I did not want to stop. This book will have you laughing a lot. This is a must read. This book was free, but you can bet I have already bought book 2. This writer is good. Book one (CLAIMED) was my first time reading a book by Evangeline Anderson. Djc

I love all good romance books but its very very rare to find a good, heartfelt si-fi romance. I could really feel a deep connection to Liv because if it was me i would be fighting to stay with the ones i love too. But personally i probably would not have lasted the first 300 pages with the way this kindered warrior did his seduction... can i say those scenes are Hot!

I’ve read every one of Ms. Anderson’s Kindred series and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Yes, the plots, along with most of the sex scenes, are rather repetitious, but there are also definite differences between each book, with new characters being introduced, new situations to be dealt with, and many other unexpected twists in each story. There’s usually a whole new planet with its own unique culture in each book. Sometimes it’s a good place, but often not. I especially like the idea that the Kindred males consider larger-sized women to be far more desirable than skinny women, which goes completely against the usual stereotype of female beauty. I also like the idea that the human females are not just helpless damsels in distress, but are heroic women who often have to rescue their males. New types of Kindred males appear now and then, so one never knows what’s going to show up next. Bear in mind that I’m a gay guy, so I’m not often this fascinated by M/F erotica, but I’ll make an exception for this series. As for the Kindred males themselves, despite their various hang-ups, they’re so handsome and honorable that I most certainly wouldn’t throw them out of my bed. (Assuming I could get one of them there in the first place, that is. Aren’t any of these gorgeous fellows gay, or at least bi?) BTW, the most interesting book, IMO, is “Switched”, where the minds of a Kindred and a human woman find themselves inhabiting each other’s body.

Sexy stuff here. Without a doubt worth the read. Sci fi romance/erotica, with some funny culture shock scenes that had me giggling in public.

This is the first book in intriguing paranormal/alien romance. I was recommended this book by Audible due to my browsing history. I decided to give it a try. This audiobook is narrated by Anne Johnstonbrown. Although she read this book clearly and succinctly, I found her interpretation of Olivia a little grating. I am not overly fond of whiny female protagonists. Unfortunately, this is how Anne Johnstonbrown's interpretation of Olivia's character comes across as. Olivia Waterhouse is ordinary human who finds herself conscripted into a contract with one of the Kindred, an alien species that has made a deal with the governments of Earth in return for protection from a rival alien race, the Scourge. I liked her feisty and determined resistance as she struggles with her attraction for Baird. Baird is a Beast Kindred and is determined to claim Olivia as his bride. I really like this man, he is a warrior with a warm heart. His patience with Olivia's resistance is stretched a little thin at times, but he is gentle with her as he tries to break down her walls. This story is told through the eyes of Liv and Baird, although Liv's twin sister, Sofia, and Baird's half brother, Sylvan also have their say. Right from the start, the story intrigued me. Aliens who require human females to help keep their population up sounds like fun, right? I liked the premise. However, the execution left a little to be desired at times. I kept thinking that Olivia could have done things a little differently. Nevertheless, I found the story entertaining. This book is full of funny incidents and misunderstandings that had me either grinning or giggling. The massage mat called a "Touch Me" was in one scene that had me giggling. However, the sexual tension between these two is steaming! The contract that Liv inadvertently entered into with Baird has several rules that have to be followed in weekly increments until the month is up, culminating in a mating. I found myself feeling sorry for Baird, as he truly cares for Liv, though she fights for her freedom at every step. I suppose I would fight too, if I was forced into a marriage/mating contract with an almost stranger (they have been dream sharing). As they become closer, things start heating up and the seduction gets hotter and hotter. The language the author used makes this book more erotica than erotic, as Baird is always mentioning or thinking what he would like to do with Liv in the bedroom, and Liv is no better with her thoughts. In a way, this turned me off rather than on. I like erotic romance but, this became a little too much even for me. I reached the end of the story with mixed feelings. I am not sure if I will continue this series in audiobook, even though the ending had me intrigued about Sofia's and Sylvan's story, Hunted. I may read it instead of listening to it. Evangeline Anderson has written an intriguing alien romance. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow was wonderful. Her characters are lifelike and likable. I would consider reading more of her books in the future. Due to the explicit sexual language and scenes, I do not recommend this book to younger readers. I do, however, recommend this book if you love New Adult, Erotic Paranormal or Contemporary Romance and Erotica genres. - Lynn Worton

I enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. Claimed started out a little awkward, but it after hearing about it, I had to find out more about the aliens so I continued reading. The author likes to leave you hanging with her subplots so it is impossible not to go on to the next book in the series to see what happens next. The female leads are strong and smart. The male leads are strong, smart, and kind. The sci-fi is well done. The erotica is not too much. The characters are likable. The aliens are so good that you'll be wishing you were a Kindred bride.
