Clash By Night

A crazed militia has planted a bomb in a day-care center, and a dedicated teacher discovers it just in time to get herself and the children to safety.

Almost. For we are in the dark universe of the crow, where the innocent must die so that justice can triumph.

Where a woman devoted to peace must don camouflage as she prowls with her black-winged familiar through the tangled underworld of hate on a search-and-destroy mission that leads her from gun shows to the rubble of the disaster.

A rubble that is stirring with new and hideous life...

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Kat Kan
Crow, the comics miniseries by James O'Barr that became the hit movie starring ill-fated Brandon Lee, has now inspired a series of novels written by various horror writers. In this latest book, a militia group in Hobie, Minnesota, plants a bomb in a daycare center to kill a senator who plans to visit. The senator cancels at the last minute and the bomb kills Amy Carlisle, Judy Croft, and ten children who were waiting to meet him. Six months later Amy rises out of the ashes, a ghost with a mission of vengeance against the racist militia who killed them. Guided by a mysterious crow and aided by a sympathetic police officer who knows what she is, Amy uses her supernatural strength and the cop's computer files to find and kill the foul-mouthed, sexist bigots who called the children they killed "mongrel animals." Amy cuts a bloody swath through and around Hobie in her quest, confronting her prey in open, populated sites (such as a gun show), resulting in chaotic overkill. In the original comic, dead Eric carefully killed the bad guys with the bloody finesse of a fine stiletto. Amy blasts away with the subtlety of a machine gun. Those familiar with O'Barr's Crow will find a similar story here, yet one that lacks the intensely visceral, personal quality of Eric's pain. Definitely not for the squeamish, this may attract mostly fans of the Crow movies. VOYA Codes: 3Q 2P S (Readable without serious defects, For the YA with a special interest in the subject, Senior High-defined as grades 10 to 12).
