Overview

Kathryn M. Ireland is among the world’s most influential interior and fabric designers. Her style is relaxed, casual, European-influenced elegance. In Classic Country, Kathryn illustrates how her fabrics marry effortlessly with those of other designers. She shares her complete philosophy, color sense, and fabric schemes for easy living both indoors and outdoors. Sumptuously photographed and illustrated, this book showcases Ireland’s boldly hued, brilliantly patterned designs, accompanied by detailed explanations of inspiration.

Ireland shows how to scheme a room using patterns, textures and colors together to create the feeling of a well-lived life.

Kathryn M. Ireland was raised in London and Scotland. Skillfully blending English manor and French farmhouse sensibilities with Malibu’s bohemian vibe, Ireland creates signature interiors for a distinguished clientele ranging from
Hollywood A-listers to English aristocracy and neighbors next door. House & Garden included Ireland among “Ten to Watch” architects and designers expected to influence twenty-firstcentury style. House Beautiful named her one of the top 100 designers in the United States. Her fabric line is distributed worldwide.

Ireland has appeared on Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, A&E’s House Beautiful, PBS’s Find, Style Network’s Shabby Chic, and Food Network’s Barefoot Contessa, as well as participating in the ITV show Design Wars. Her design projects have been featured in Vogue Living, Elle Decor, House & Garden, House Beautiful, Veranda, W, and Traditional Home. Ireland is the author of Creating a Home and Summers in France. She divides her time between Santa Monica,
California, and Montauban, France.

Read an Excerpt

I t is a mistake to underestimate the significance of the relationship between humans and the cloth that they make. There is very little that is not revealed about the geography, status, economy, and above all identity of the maker or weaver of cloth; we are what wear and use cloth for. In modern, urban societies we have swapped natural or tribal costume for an adherence to the commands of international fashion houses. But the need to own or wear texture, colour, and pattern still results in the continuing reestablishment of our own identity.
