Through his exquisite illustrations and artful retellings, Michael Foreman captures all the charm and mystery of 14 eternal classics. His radiant paintings shine with color: the glimmering gold of Cinderella's coach; the rich hue of Red Riding Hood's cloak; the vivid green of the beanstalk rising up to the sky; the luminous, almost transparent white of Sleeping Beauty's gown and bed. This is a truly special collection that every child should own--and that every parent will take pride in sharing.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A quartet of collections makes this a spring to celebrate. Michael Foreman retells and illustrates 14 favorites in Classic Fairy Tales. A full-bleed painting shows the prince slashing his way through the overgrown forest to free Sleeping Beauty, while cartoonish, almost comical fine line and watercolor wash illustrations show Jack stealing into the giants' castle atop the beanstalk. Foreman's Puss in Boots has a gleam in his eye as he doffs his hat. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 3-Foreman's retellings of these 14 stories are gentled down considerably. The Three Little Pigs, for example, just happen to be traveling around the world when winter's approach causes them to think about house-building. None of them turns into pork dinners, and the Big Bad Wolf suffers no more than a burnt tail. Cinderella's sisters are instantly forgiven for mistreating her. Even the wolf that swallows Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother ends up a vegetarian. Foreman cites no sources for these well-known stories. His watercolor illustrations, leaning heavily toward the blue and green side of the palette, are as easy on the eye as his defanged tellings are on supersensitive readers.-Miriam Lang Budin, Chappaqua Public Library, NY Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
