Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

This meticulously researched volume combines modern anatomical science with the classical theories of figurative proportion, rhythm, and grace to present an illustrated overview of the history of artistic anatomy. Included are an introduction to anatomical terms, entries on all major muscle groups and their roles in creating movement, detailed renderings, and a selection of finished life studies. A significant contribution to the literature of art reference. For large public collections, art libraries, and academic libraries. For the more casual artist, see Lucy Watson's popular Life Drawing Class: A Step-by-Step Course in Figure Drawing.

Excellent source for figurative artists and sculptors

The drawings and illustrations are very well done, with much thought and attention to the importance of the views, including 360 degree poses. This book is a unique resource, not the average figure drawing book, and is very valuable to the serious figurative artist and sculptor.

    One of my Best Purchases

"I'd rather buy something more affordable" is what I thought when I first saw this book. However, after browsing through the book I was captivated by how thorough it was and I purchased it shortly after. Anatomy is a vital part of drawing and there is no book out there better than this one. It covers each part of the body, both males and females, and even different body types. I recommend this book to anyone who is draws humans in any style, definitely worth more than the price and shelf space.

    more from this reviewer

This is a good book if you are serious.

This book is less of a 'How to Draw' than a solid reference text. This is not a bargain book, but the proportion guidelines located in the back are worth the price. It's also refreshing to see the author spend equal detain on both male and female physiques.

If you need an informative, well illustrated, and systematic text then get this book. If you need an anatomy book, get this book.
