"Classical Ballet Technique is an invaluable guide for students, teachers, and ballet lovers. It not only covers the broad spectrum of ballet vocabulary but also gives sound, practical advice to aspiring dancers. The clarity of the writing, in a field notorious for its opaqueness, is in itself a major achievement."--Merrill Ashley, Principal Dancer

This is more of an encyclopedia for ballet. It is not really a fun read. Not boring, tho. What it does is detail the jargon and show pics of the moves. For an absolute beginner, this book may be a bit too much. It had a pronunciation guide, glossary, and a bit of male/female type moves, explaining why. Absolute beginner? Well, if you don't know ANYTHING yet, you are true beginner. I have only been in ballet one year and I get use out of this book. Wierd, but I think this book kinda has a '70's' feel about it. I was suprised it was published when it was cause it just reads like an older book. Little or no mention of modern stars like Ethan Stiefel kinda gives it this feel I think. WELL worth the price. I threw out most of my lesser ballet books after getting this and reading into it.

"Classical Ballet Technique" is a book that should find its' way into the hands of any and every person who has the slightest interest in the art of dancing. Not only is it an ideal companion guide for learning proper ballet form, it is also useful for non-ballet related sports. It gives in-depth perspective on grace, poise, and especially balance, which is the key to ballet. There are plenty of photos to help "visualise" how to do the many different moves, coupled with informative text from one of the best ballet teachers in the country. Needless to say, I wish I had this book when I started ballet!

The best ballet text book I've seen. I have purchased this book as a gift for many dancers. Useful for a reference in all kinds of dance studios.

This book has GORGEOUS pictures. Some diagrams don't actually help, for it doesn't quite explain the difference between the two or three pictures. But still, I recommend it very much, it helped me clean up my technique, some things were harder to fix, because of my bad habits of 3-4 years. It also helped me with staying on my big toe while en pointe, and other things about pointe. Great book overall.

This book contains not only incredible pictures depicting each movement of the steps but the most valuable tips on the execution of them. Students can be shown pictures of the most perfect form and teachers learn effective ways to convey the mechanics.

The photographs show correct and different incorrect postures. If taking up ballet again after a good number of years, never did it or teaching: The book is a must.

This is the best ballet book I have ever seen. I love it so much that I'm getting another one to give to a friend of mine in ballet class! When it comes to movement, photographs help to get that exact stance and position....and this book is filled with endless photographs. I know that it will take me years to fully be able to execute all those wonderful ballet positions illustrated in this magnificent volume. This will be the only book you will ever need for ballet!!!!!!!!
