On Classics for a New Century, 13 of Sony Classical's releases are stripped of all but their most emotional moments. It's an exhausting listen start to finish, better served in small doses. There's classical artists crossing over to pop and pop artists crossing over to classical, bits of soundtracks, plus some blending of world and electronic music with traditional pieces. Nonetheless, advertising executives should grab a copy since all of the emotive tracks will work wonders for their products. Classics for a New Century is the kind of release that will make purists cringe and others will swoon over.
