Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Robert J. Marzano, Debra J. Pickering, and Jane E. Pollock draw upon their many years of experience and expertise as educators to effectively collaborate in providing an informative series of nine research-based strategies for the use of classroom teachers seeking to increase their student's achievement levels. These strategies include identifying similarities and differences; summarizing and note taking; reinforcing effort and providing recognition; homework and practice; nonlinguistic representations; cooperative learning; setting objectives and providing feedback; generating and testing hypotheses; questions, cues, and advance organizers. Enhanced with informative charts and graphs, and highly recommended for student teacher reading lists and classroom management studies, Classroom Instruction That Works will enable teachers to enable their students to learn how to take effective notes, work in groups, and use graphic organizers.

    It does work!

This is a must read for anyone interested in education. High stakes testing is par for the course today and educators must do everything they can within their classrooms to ensure student success.

    Use in graduate classes

I have used this book as a text in a graduate class for the past three years. It is part of a unit for administrators on program implementation. This book is one of the best that I have seen. Class participants can hardly wait to crack open the book and find out the best teaching strategies that should be used in our schools. BRAVO!

good, but sample sizes are small

Good info and technique, but evaluation is based on rather small sample sizes.

    Student Teacher Tested

I found this book to be very helpful in my student teaching. We were required to try each instructional model of teaching in the classroom during our student teaching. I found it very effective in reaching students with different learning styles. It was very helpful with tips on how to use each instructional model.
