Claude Bolling: Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trioby Claude Bolling
Claude Bolling's Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano, released in 1976, is a harmonious fusion of classical elegance and breezy jazz that topped the classical charts for more than a decade. Bolling's airy melodies are perfectly tailored to flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal's graceful artistry. It's light fare, for sure, but a class act from start to finish. Even the fugues will get your feet tapping. The success of this composition led Bolling to write numerous jazzed-up successors for cellist Yo-Yo Ma, trumpeter Maurice André, violinist Pinchas Zukerman, and others. The original, however, is still the best.
