About the Author

Kevin Lee was born in Renton, Washington, U.S.A. and the first few years of his life were spent playing among the evergreens and along the shores of Puget Sound. It was during this time that his mother heard a great violinist play for the very first time and after moving their family to Thousand Oaks, California, Kevin started learning to play his eighth-size violin at age six. The violin cost twenty-five dollars and he took his first lessons from his second grade school teacher.
The many unique experiences that followed have helped Kevin in the arts of violinmaking and writing and he officially became recognized as a “Master Luthier” in 1999 when his original violins (unlike most violin makers, he has never made a copy) were independantly appraised higher than any other living maker in history.
While his books are written in novel form and liberties have been taken, the Luthier’s true life story has been interwoven throughout the series.
Kevin lives in a Victorian-style farmhouse (similar to the one mentioned in the series) on a vineyard (work in progress) in the American Southwest with his beautiful wife, Sheryl.
