    Excellent Practice Tests

I just took the History of the US I CLEP today and blew it away thanks to this book. I used the Sparknotes 101 book to get the info, and used this book to take practice tests and find my weak areas. There's about 1/3 of a page of explanation for each answer on the practice exams... very helpful! The text isn't so great, so I didn't really read much of it.

    Explanation is vital!!

The actual history review section is kinda lame. I actually bought a different book (DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT HISTORY-VERY GOOD)to cover the reading portion. But the testing portion and review is a MUST!!! Testing preps that do not explain the answer are worthless garbage. This does a good job of explaining.

Study this guide and you're sure to pass the CLEP exam!

This guide was all I needed to pass the History I CLEP exam. Be sure to take the practice tests and read the answer section of the practice tests. There is additional information in the answer sections that appeared on the test that the regular section does not cover. Good luck!

    A Quickie in History

I found this book to be a mediocre study guide yet, I must admit that test results were high. This book is definitely the way to go for a quickie in history.

    Don't waste your money...

I'm a 4.0 GPA student who makes straight A's. I studied each of the three practice tests offered in this studyguide and was able to pass each of them with a perfect score. The ACTUAL CLEP exam didn't contain any of the information I learned from the practice tests! I tried actually reading the material, but the book gives SO much information that there's no way to take it all in. I think to pass this CLEP exam you must have to have just had a refresher course or be a history nut! Good luck - I didn't make it this time! :)

You need more than just this book.

I passed so this is not a complaint. Based on the scoring matrix this test is a hard one anyway. A 50 is considered a ¿C¿, a 54 is considered a ¿B¿, and a 59 is considered an ¿A¿. The best you can get is an 80 'composite score' and those that were ¿bumming¿ that they only got a 65 probably spent as much time and effort on preparing for this class as they would have just taking it. So it must have been about saving money¿ Regardless I saw less than 5% of the questions from the prep exams in this book on the actual test. I read the book, took all three practice tests multiple times, went over the detailed answer for each question, got an 80 every time I took it 'with the CD from the book' and in the end I got a 50 on the actual. I was in it to save time, CU only requires a 50 to get credit, the score is not part of my GPA it shows up as a transfer so I am not ¿bummed¿ at all. However if you are in it to save money and not time do what others suggested and read a college level US History text as well as this. Without that much effort you are risking money and time.
