In 1949 the Cleveland Browns, champions of the AAFL, joined the National Football League (NFL). Fifty years later the Browns left Cleveland for another city. Shocked that such an historical fixture in the NFL could leave, former players and fans fought hard and in 1999 Cleveland got another team. The team, of course, was called the Browns. Author Mark Stewart shows young and reluctant readers a tremendous amount of historical information and facts about the Browns. As in other "Team Spirit" books, Stewart refrains from focusing entirely on the major stars of the teams, choosing to write about many different players. The different sections of the book provide readers with more than just information about the team. There are sections about the game of football, including the equipment and field. Football rules are covered, as well as many other interesting bits of information. As with other books in the "Team Spirit" series, Stewart uses the Browns to illustrate the good teamwork and preparation it takes to become champions. Colorful photographs, detailed information on players and games, and other interesting sections make this an excellent addition to any school or public library nonfiction collection.
