Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
For fans of The 4-Hour Workweek, entrepreneur and consultant Fox (Internet Riches) offers a guide to escaping the daily grind. Most people are dissatisfied with their 9–5 jobs and never get the chance to find work they love. Using an aggressively chipper tone (“Join the Click Millionaires Revolution!”). Fox’s rousing go-go-go program leads readers through every step of the transition from cubicle to home office. He urges readers to create a lifestyle business, in which they prioritize a flexible schedule and independent work over profits and stress, using Web sites, e-commerce, digital publishing, and social media to build businesses that work on their own schedules—first part-time and then developing a niche business online that generates recurring revenues automatically. His comprehensive, pragmatic approach covers online presence, social networking, production and operations, and online advertising, and includes interviews from those who’ve succeeded. Though working from a beach will remain a pipe dream for most, Fox presents a solid plan for those looking to shed the shackles of corporate life. Chapter One

work less, live more becoming a click millionaire

The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat. —Lily Tomlin, actress and comedian

THERE HAS TO BE a better way!

Isn't that what you have been thinking? Are you tired of the work you do, or the people you work with, or the low pay or uncertain career path? Or maybe all of the above? Or the fact that you may have to continue that same routine for years or decades more? Do you really think that you're going to be able to save your way to a comfortable retirement working for someone else? Aren't the odds of a comfortable retirement small unless you save so much that your working years are painfully light on luxuries, vacations, and toys?

If you are like I used to be, you probably thought getting that corporate job was a ticket to both money and security. Unfortunately corporate employment has turned out to be more of an "income for dummies" plan than a lifetime meal ticket. You are still required to contribute most of your waking hours to the corporate bottom line—but that's no longer a guarantee for steady pay, job security, decent health coverage, and a comfortable retirement. Sadly, the only person who cares about your personal fulfillment and financial independence is you. Add the daily pressure of commuting to an office, working with people you normally wouldn't spend time with, pursuing priorities set by people who don't understand the needs of your customers, plus the constant threat of layoffs, it's no wonder that more and more people feel trapped in a rat race from which they can't escape!

Don't Just Get a Job, Get a Life

If you challenge traditional assumptions about career priorities, you can discover that there are new solutions to these work-life balance issues. It's okay to put your own life ahead of making money or climbing the corporate ladder and you don't have to do work you dread just to keep afloat. Today you have the opportunity to redesign your life around what's important to you and define success for yourself. You can choose to build a lifestyle business online that supports both your family and your own personal life goals, even with little capital or technical training.

Redefining success on your own terms can allow you to rebalance your life to achieve the goals most important to you. Instead of focusing simply on making money, I'd like to help you find the courage to define your success not just in dollars, fancy cars, or shiny objects that are promoted to you on television, but to include increased flexibility, creativity, and happiness, too. But motivation and a willingness to make some sacrifices along the way are not all you need to build a profitable lifestyle business for yourself. You need specific practical recommendations about which online business opportunities and tools are the best today. Personalizing those recommendations into a plan that you act upon can make the difference between wishing you were successful and being successful.

I wrote this book to help you do just that.

This Book Is Different

Too much online moneymaking advice is focused on finding clever but unsustainable ways to attract more website traffic. That kind of approach focuses on tricks—it helps you exploit small advantages in pay-per-click (PPC) advertising or search engine optimization (SEO), or attracting traffic from the latest YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, app, plug-in, software, or other "hacks."

These approaches sometimes work, but by the time an online marketing "guru" gets around to telling (and selling) you his latest traffic-attraction tricks, you can be sure that there's not much money left in that competitive market.

More importantly, building businesses on temporary market inefficiencies doesn't build the long-term asset value and recurring income of the Click Millionaire business system that I want for you.

So, this book is not going to teach you how to become the 100,000th person to rehash diet secrets into a free e-book, build a huge email list overnight with YouTube videos or mobile apps, or use Google Adwords PPC ads to promote affiliate marketing offers.

Instead of teaching you to push a product that may be outdated in six months and require you to start over again, this book is going to help you develop a new business and career that grows into a satisfying ongoing lifestyle for you. It's going to teach you to redefine success for yourself, redesign your life around the things that matter most to you, and support that lifestyle with your own Internet-based business that allows you to enjoy the financial independence, creative control, and schedule flexibility traditionally only available to people who already had millions in the bank.

The goal is to find a lifestyle balance that is comfortable and fulfilling for you.

You Can Build a Business as Unique as You Are

My goal for you is to create something new; an original and unique business that positions you as an expert in your chosen field; a business that channels your efforts into something more significant than just increasing your click-through rate by 0.01 percent; a business that targets niche needs that speak to you and those in your target market on a fundamental level. I'd like to help you mine your niche to generate long-term recurring profits from a sustainable, personally satisfying lifestyle business that is meaningful to you.

For example:

• How about building a business around your unique personal experience so that you can help others solve similar problems in their own lives?

• Or developing an interest you have into a new expertise you can use to help advise others with similar interests?

• And delivering that information or those products in a cost-effective, consistent, ethical way that attracts loyal customers to create a profitable business around you and your favorite hobbies?

I have done this personally in a bunch of market spaces that most "experts" and keyword research would have said were saturated, including probably the most competitive area of all, Internet marketing. Together we'll make sure that your approach will be different, successful, and practical, too.

What's a "Lifestyle Business"?

A lifestyle business is one where you prioritize lifestyle benefits over growth and profits.

It's a real business that makes you real money but one that also lets you enjoy more of the life you deserve. With little risk or cash investment, these new kinds of online businesses can help you create a "laptop lifestyle" that finally frees you from working for someone else. Plus, they can make you happier because you spend your time working on projects you choose with people you like. The money is not the point. Your lifestyle as the owner is.

You may feel like you're not qualified to build your own business, or that the niches that interest you must be "wrong" because they don't fit traditional MBA approaches. But business schools (and most business books) teach people how to work for and grow corporations, not build happier lives. With lifestyle businesses the emphasis is on your lifestyle at least as much as on the business. This means that (unlike with corporate jobs or business school management theories) you can prioritize your own lifestyle interests first and even have multiple business lines at the same time. And who's more of an expert on what you want out of life than you?

Business school professors, economists, and bankers turn up their noses at this kind of business, because it doesn't require venture capital and isn't aimed at maximizing profits, increasing shareholder value, or issuing an IPO. But I love those businesses.

Let's face it, you're not on track to become a billionaire anyway. Wouldn't you be happy with a six-figure business that was in a field you like, with low costs, few politics or management challenges, and that allowed you to control your own schedule? (Especially if that business had the potential to grow even more profitable through free Internet distribution and automated online marketing?)

Sorry, business school professors: your traditional corporate definitions of success don't apply to Click Millionaire lifestyle businesses.

The goal of most big companies seems to be growth for growth's sake. And the most ambitious people used to want to work for those big companies. But today the pressure of big company jobs has many professionals I know wishing for something less stressful, even if it means taking a cut in pay.

"Big" also used to be a requirement for business because it took lots of people to do stuff. People needed to explain product features and make sales, people needed to process paperwork, people needed to check inventory and coordinate with suppliers, people needed to spread the word through advertising and marketing, and so forth. But the Net has changed all that. Decades of competition in the software industry have created powerful Internet-based systems for publishing, distribution, and marketing that any start-up or small business owner can use for just a few dollars/month. Today most order-taking and sales functions can be automated through a simple website shopping cart that will track your inventory, too. A lot of marketing can get done even while you're at the beach or asleep—your website doesn't go to the beach and your online ads keep running while you're sleeping!

All this means that the "small" in small business no longer means small impact, small reach, or small sales. In fact, Click Millionaires specialize in profiting from big-company–style systems but without out all the expense and hassle!

As popularized in Tim Ferris's now classic book, The 4-Hour Workweek (Crown Archetype, 2007), today you can use the Internet to construct job opportunities, projects, and even new companies around your own preferences. Even without a business background or a technical education you can design your career and business around your own schedule and interests instead of having to punch the clock at the same time and location every day, dressed the same way, interacting with the same people, and doing the same thing. Free worldwide email, phone, video, chat, and social networks now mean that you don't need to be physically present in an office much anymore.

The Internet allows free-flowing self-organizing projects and ventures to emerge constantly, reducing your dependence on corporate paychecks. Outsourcing, virtual assistants, freelance contractor project marketplaces, mobile platforms, social networks, telecommuting, browser-based SAAS tools, cloud computing ... all of these developments have created a constant flow of new ventures and small business opportunities that don't require you to become a lifetime employee counting the years toward the gold watch you'll get when you retire.

What's a "Click Millionaire"?

I'm not talking about a "get-rich-quick" strategy. Click Millionaires is the manifesto of a movement focused on building flexible and profitable lifestyle businesses online that suit the individual lifestyle priorities of their Click Millionaire owners. Here's how I define the term:

Click Millionaire [klik mil-yuh-nair or klik mil'ye-nâr] Click Millionaires use websites, e-commerce, digital publishing, and social media to build lifestyle businesses that share their ideas and products with the world on their own schedule and terms. A lifestyle design movement as much as a business model, becoming a Click Millionaire does not require a million-dollar online business. Instead, Click Millionaires define success by using the latest digital commerce and marketing tools to build profitable, ethical, Internet-based businesses that improve their own lifestyles and the lives around them. The resulting Click Millionaire lifestyles offer unprecedented levels of personal career control, creative independence, schedule flexibility, and work satisfaction.

The traditional American dream centered on individual financial achievement—where becoming a "millionaire" allowed you to control your own life, afford anything you want, and live on your own terms. But today the phrase "Click Millionaire" captures the revolutionary idea that lifestyle benefits like the independence, security, and self-confidence—formerly only available to the wealthy—are now available to anyone who chooses to build a successful lifestyle business online. As you can see from the definition above, money is important to Click Millionaires, but it's not the only thing that matters to the "new rich." Money is not the destination on your life's road trip; it's just the gas to help you enjoy the journey.

To become a Click Millionaire I encourage you to:

• Change your thinking to focus first on your goal of living better, however you define that personally.

• Redesign your life around what's important to you and your family instead of working late to meet your boss's schedule.

• Rearrange your work so that your bank account benefits directly from your efforts instead of paying for your employers' new cars and vacations when you may be struggling to pay your mortgage.

My bet is that if you could redesign your life to emphasize your personal happiness, a comfortable lifestyle, and the ability to share your profits with others, you'd be satisfied—even without becoming a millionaire. Why? Because you're not greedy and the reality is that you would just like to be comfortable and lead a life that has meaning for you.

Don't Quit Working—Start Enjoying Your Work Instead

I'm not talking here about early retirement or passive income strategies. Instead what I'm proposing is that you start a business part-time, while you're still working your current job, and gradually build a niche business online that generates recurring revenues for you as automatically as possible. Over time you can grow your Click Millionaire side business to make an ever-increasing portion of your income, and a portion that you enjoy earning, too.

Wouldn't your life be easier with an extra $500 a month? How about $1,500 or $5,000 a month? Most business advice skips right over those more realistic numbers to promise you millions of dollars in some kind of magical cash transformation process. But Click Millionaires are realistic adults. We're not looking for get-rich-quick solutions. We look for legitimate opportunities that we can profit from with a reasonable amount of continuing hard work, clever marketing, and creativity. We invest our time to create profitable businesses that allow us the money and personal freedom to pursue lifestyles that we enjoy on a day-to-day basis, instead of only on weekends and during a few rushed weeks of vacation each year.

Everyone expects to be paid for their time. Where Click Millionaires differ is that they aim to evolve past the painful "hours for dollars" trade that dominates most people's working lives. Instead of organizing your life around working for someone else, as a Click Millionaire you start with the premise that you deserve to control your own time and daily schedule. Your time is more valuable to you than to anyone else. If you are going to spend time on a project, then you deserve not only to be paid, but paid well.

But as a Click Millionaire, your success is not just financial. You want to invest your time in work you enjoy and that benefits your lifestyle. In most cases this means making more money, but in many cases this means doing less work so you can enjoy life, too. This is the real goal of Click Millionaires: to get paid more for work you enjoy even while working less!

I know this sounds ambitious or even crazy, but I have accomplished this personally. And, this book will share with you dozens more examples of Click Millionaire success that you can apply to your own life to become a member of the new rich, too.

Together we'll develop a plan to help you rearrange your life's priorities from making the boss rich to living a richer life yourself—not overnight but over time, part time. We'll explore digital business– building tools such as email newsletters, blogs, online communities, podcasting, online video, and affiliate marketing. All of these are fun and inexpensive business models you can take advantage of online starting today. And don't worry if all that sounds too technical. Click Millionaires introduces these opportunities in plain, nontechnical language that can help you learn to succeed on your own terms just like I have.

How can you redesign your life and start a lifestyle business to get your share of the Click Millionaires revolution? Read on!

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start a website business, I have read other similar books but they did not have step by step instructions that are easy to understand. This book puts starting a website business in perspective with easy to understand steps from start to finish. I often go back and re-read certain sections to be certain that I have a complete understanding of the material presented. This is an excellent book for those starting a web business for the first time. I highly recommend this book

What an insightful and informative piece of art! I found this book full of inspiration and valuable information. Just what I needed to get me going and stay inspired, to keep working on my on-line business. This book gave me a lot of information about how to make money online. It has many useful suggestions all in one place. There is so much information in that book that I could share it with many friends. For me, particularly useful was knowledge about making income on advertising ... seems like that information would be useful for anybody doing business online. Must read for all new on-line business entrepreneurs!

As an entrepreneur, I found the book loaded with solid common sense advice about how to create an online business. As a baseball coach, sooner or later you have to take action, get off the bench and get into the game.  To be successful, you need to read but then you have to get it in gear and make it happen. I found the checklists to be the most valuable content in the book. I’ve tried a couple of different approaches, but failed miserably. By combining my love of baseball with a get rich slow approach, I make progress every day.  This isn’t a book you read once, hold hands and sing Kumbaya and it happens magically. You have to read the book at least twice – do all of the exercises – and map out a plan of action. Then you assess where you’re at and keep plodding.  Too many people think that it’s about getting rich quick. Just do this and presto – you are rich. Building a business takes time and you need to put in the sweat equity. Nobody cares about my business as much as I do.

I absolutely loved the book. You absolutely have to get it.  It's the best I've read so far, and I have read a few. I got the audio book and couldn't stop listening. I listened over and over and got something more, something new each time.  It is divided into chapters by the types of internet business tools you might like to utilize.   You can go right to the ones that interest you and skip around without missing thing.  It's a good idea though  to start from the beginning and keep a business idea journal as suggested in the book.  You probably already have one.  I did.     One of the things I liked best is that all the information I have heard over the years . . .from here and there. . was all in one place in an organized manner. He gave lots of ideas (blogs, newls), lots of resources (reference websites) and encouragement.  I helped me to know I to could become an internet business success. Scott gives you lifestyle design exercises to help get it all straight out of your head and on to paper where  you can see it so you know where you want to go with your business ideas.  With the book you can also be involved with the Click Millionaires website and connect with those that can help get your started in the right direction.  It's all up to what YOU DO with the information.

Apparently the best business-oriented book I've read within the last few years. A handful of step-by-step instructions and useful exercises. Success stories/examples. Valuable tip to toe. Haven't seen anything similar so far – just a thorough guide to a new land. Simple and clear yet comprehensive. Well done!

"Click Millionaires" is a clearly written, no B.S., discussion of how to marry one's lifestyle philosophy & financial needs to an I-net business that meets your needs. It is a good "how to" guide, comprehensive, and compelling, that once read, serves as a useful reference that you'll keep going back to. In short, if you're looking for a way to "click" your way to personal & financial success, this book is for you.

I decided to write this review, because I wanted to make sure that people that are planning to set up an information marketing business learn about the importance of owning this book as their guide and support for the success of their business. As I was progressing with the reading of the book, I started to get more and more excited, realizing that finally I found the book I was looking for, for weeks. I knew by about half time of my reading that I lucked out and with the help of this book I will succeed with my endeavors. It is not everyday that you can find a book that takes you by your hand and guides you every step of the way toward the successful development of your business. I actually purchased two copies so that my partner can consult the book concurrently with me, because I do not let it out of my hand. The book contains a detailed blueprint for how to initiate, build and manage a digital business. I am consulting the book repeatedly while working on my new website. The book is not only well written and easy to read, but one of the most comprehensive one about information marketing and how you can create the best lifestyle one can have by following the authors' advise. You know that there is a huge selection of books about this and other similar topics and I confess, I own quite a few of them, myself. None, and I have to repeat this, NONE comes even close to Scott Fox’s book with respect to providing you with practical information, including detailed, step-by-step guidelines for digital publishing, podcasting, network- and affiliate marketing, freelancing, content marketing and up to establishing one’s brand. Do you know what makes a book a "Best Seller?" – mostly if it is written by an experienced professional that writes well. Scott Fox fits this bill perfectly. There you have it. Did you ask yourself the following question lately? "I'd like to know everything about Internet businesses but I do not know whom to ask." Well, your best source has just arrived. Read this book. Once you know the basics from Chapter 1, you start to learn about the details in the Chapters that follow. Part 3 and 6 of the book are the meat and potato for learning about the best Internet businesses for making money while concurrently redesigning your lifestyle according to the click millionaire lifestyle. There are two “10-step action plans” in the book. One is about how to redesign your lifestyle and the other is the click millionaire’s expert program. If nothing else you want to take from the book, at the minimum you must follow these two guides that will lead you to the successful achievement of your endeavors. You should print out both and pin them in the area you are spending most of your time, when working. An additional benefit of Scott's book is, that it is supported by his two active online community. The websites introduce readers to groups of like-minded business owners, leaders and aspiring business developers that are available to network and learn from one another. Readers of the book can relax, knowing that aside from consulting the book as often as they feel the need, they can also get answers to their questions from other like-minded people after they join the click millionaires group online, which is free if you purchase the book. I actually joined the membership program where for a minimal membership fee, you can even consult the author directly.

What I like best about Scott's book are the practical approaches to starting your own e-business. The book offers a section on envisioning your new reality, dips into some proven routes to success, and then breaks down activities. As LAWonder has noted, it's easiest to have a copy to refer to as you work on your projects, but not completely necessary. Owners of the book also may join Scott's online community and forum, which is a tremendous source of advice, reference information, and general morale-boosting interactions. I thought the later chapters should have been placed earlier in the book. The book is all about getting started; I would have liked to see an appendix (or a web page) of recommended reading/references once you have your e-business up and running.
LAWonder More than 1 year ago
Scott Fox has written this book in a fashion that you must keep referring to it for it to be effective. He has outlined a realistic path for entrepreneurs to move forward in creating a comfortable & successful lifestyle. This is a formula one needs to follow and refer to while building a successful on-line business that is realistically doable. A great book for all those who want a better way of life and who will apply themselves consistently to obtain it. I am so glad I won this book or I might have thought it just another get-rich-quick book , of which it is not.
BeachEC More than 1 year ago
Highly recommended for uplifting content, roadmap/examples of making money, support and clear communication. I personally was struggling with creating a profitable business model/how to make money and reading the book helped me realize there are tons of ways and not to listen to everyone else. What I had been thinking all along was verified in this book to work. Stay away from gurus that want you to spend 1,000s of dollars. You'll learn more from your customers. The forum gives offers for $97/$127 products and direct contact with the author. This seems to be common among many authors. I prefer reading books.

Click Millionaires: Work Less, Live More with an Internet Business You Love by Scott Fox is a book for those hoping to make money online. Don't let the title fool you though, this is not a get rich quick book but a high level view of what it takes to create another income stream. Click Millionaires: Work Less, Live More with an Internet Business You Love by Scott Fox (website) is an exciting book which came to me just at the right time. I was looking for other sources of income, but didn’t want to work myself to death and be able to spend some time with the kids. I have tried freelance programming but never made any money at it (ended up with making $2 an hour or close to that) and gave up when I had to run for months after people to pay. As you well know, I like books and have a book blog. While the main reason for the blog is not to make money, it sure would be nice to at least pay the hosting bills or buy some holiday toys for the kids. Most book bloggers will tell you that they’re not in it for the money, and I believe them. But we all have an Amazon Associates account – don’t we? Making money off associate accounts or on-line at all is an art form, time consuming and not as easy as you might think. We all know that the people selling hope are not selling a plan –and without a plan your dreams of Internet stardom are just that – dreams. I don’t think I’ll become a millionaire, but a few hundred bucks a month could go a long way Why spend energy working nights, stocking shelves, when I can spend that energy on my own little business? This book gives an excellent overview of ways to make money online through freelancing, vlogging, blogging, podcasting , etc. and how you can make all of these work together to your advantage. One reading, you can pick an avenue(s), research more and start their small online business almost immediately. There are many other sources at the end of the book for such research. The reason this book excited me was not because of the information (as excellent as it is) but because of the ideas that were popping into my head while I was reading it. Some of them I immediately discarded off the bat, others I had to think about before discarding them – but I ended up with a few that I think might actually be descent. And that, my friends, is the power of this book.

A new Click Millionaire on the way I recently read Click Millionaires by Scott Fox, I went straight till the end because the book keps you going very easily through the content of the chapters. In the way, I did extract notes for my personal approach to put it in action in a new project. Not many books are as clear and "call to action" as this, it gets you trough a realistic and comprehensive review of the personal and business elements you have to put in place to start a business online, especially if you are a non-tech person, like me, but really want to develop a new style of life and work." When my interest start to grow toward online businesses I started the research over the web, the amount of information you can find is enormous and somewhat unclear at moments depending on the author and the topics, trying to mix and bond the parts can be hard. Finding a resource with a more comprehensive and ordered in an almost temporary way is not easy; Click Millionaires has much of it and very good information. For me the best or most useful part of the book was the real data and resources about starting an online product, especially types of business, the angle of them and how to know which will be the best to start your own depending on your personal goals. Company names and descriptions of services like hosting, web development, revenue systems and advertising strategies for ones web are great and you realize that those can be available for free or at low cost. Since I took notes at my reading, I was able to revive the motivation I felt when reading the book when looking at the notes, I would recommend reading it as written so it gets you through an empowering process from wanting an online business to actually set the frame work to start the business. Picking parts or chapters are good but I might recommend reading it completely.” Knowing how useful this book is, I certainly will look for his other books in the near future to obtain more applicable tips and procedures to implement them in my pursue of a better lifestyle for me, my family and the people that will come in touch with our new online business. "My husband and I listened to this book while driving to Colorado (10 hour drive) whereby I took 20 pages of notes to follow. My husband is usually skeptical of these types of books because he views them as get rich quickly. He initially was turned off by the name but once I shared the emphasis, he was willing to listen. Then while driving, he would stop the CD to discuss ideas, etc. He's been engaged with the content since." This book introduced us to so many ways to monetize our website that we were totally unaware of  - now, we have confidence in knowing what we can do to create a solution oriented business. A great book to help understand how to start a lifestyle online business. Appreciate the emphasis on building an online lifestyle ethical business.”

I liked the part in the book where Scott talked about how to discover your niche. I think like many people, that's where I needed the most help. It's basically the first step in developing an online business and Scott clearly explains how to discover your niche in great detail.
