Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
There are no real surprises in this early reader about Clifford the big red dog. He is joining Emily and her friends on an outing to Dinosaur Land. How do they get there? By riding on board Clifford's back. Once there Clifford sees a dinosaur and is a bit afraid, but he picks it up and discovers that it is not real and unfortunately it breaks into pieces. He manages to impart some information about dinosaurs and in once case shows a pterodactyl which was not really a dinosaur. Clifford, as usual, saves the day when one of the mothers has lost her son. Using his strong sense of smell Clifford manages to bring mother and son back together. Note: this adventure is a little unrealistic since it would be unlikely that any museum or play land would allow a big dog like Clifford on the premises. A level 1 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series with a Lexile of 250 and a word count of 266. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
