Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Clifford the Big Red Dog has been around in books for some time, and he is also a TV star. In this story, Emily Elizabeth's aunt decides that Clifford needs some formal obedience training and that she is the person to do it. After a few amusing incidents, they tell Clifford to stay while they go to Auntie's house to check out something in one of her dog owner manuals. Clifford stays, even when a truck dumps dog chow in front of him, when the kids throw Frisbees and while the other cats and dogs played around him. Finally, Emily Elizabeth remembers that she left Clifford sitting by the curb, she races back and is not careful crossing the street. It is then that Clifford moves and saves his beloved mistress. (Interestingly, the illustrator has chosen to show the car's driver more involved with his cell phone than with his driving. Another message appears to be conveyed here.) 2003, Scholastic,
