Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Clifford is a giant of a dog and he towers over everyone and everything. Clifford is part of Emily Elizabeth's family and last week she and Clifford went to meet his brother Nero who lives in a firehouse. He is a rescue dog. One spread shows Clifford offering to help and one can see that he is even bigger than the red fire truck that he matches in color quite well. Nero demonstrates to a visiting class what they should do if their clothing ever catches on fire. Clifford decides to try out the lesson, but due to his size it creates a minor disaster as he rolls over a few pushcarts. The fire alarm sounds and Clifford is off with Emily Elizabeth hanging on. He becomes a hero when he helps rescue people, unreel the heavy hoses, opens a stuck fire hydrant, makes a hole in the roof, and manages to dump water on the fire and blow smoke away. Every fire department would benefit from having a big red dog like Clifford. The pictures provide the humor to a straightforward text and the closing page contains a list of seven fire safety rules.
