Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Emily Elizabeth is a young girl and Clifford is just a puppy in this story. She is going for her first sleepover at Grandma's house and she cannot take Clifford with her. Unbeknownst to her, Clifford slips into to her overnight bag pocket. Once at her grandparent's house, Emily Elizabeth joins them when they take their dog, Lad, out for a walk. Now Clifford decides to come out of hiding. He mimics all of the things Lad is doing outside while inside the house, but he creates havoc when he starts to eat the pie and overturns dinner. When Grandma, Grandpa, and Emily Elizabeth get back they are faced with a mess and Emily Elizabeth figures out that it could only have been caused by Clifford. What a cleanup job they face and dinner turns out to be pizza. Emily Elizabeth's first sleepover turns out to be Clifford's first sleepover. Once again Bridwell conveys most of the story through his simple illustrations. A level 1 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
