    HORRIBLE Study Guide

When I added the Praxis II Social Studies test I picked this book up at my local store as there were no other Social Studies guides available.. It was the most frustrating study guide I've ever used in my life. The questions were completely subjective and left me with more questions than answers. Also, some of the information in it... is flat out wrong! I will never buy another CliffsTestPrep book again.

    Waste of Time and Money

As someone has already stated, the questions here are highly subjective and sometimes the answers are completely wrong. I consider myself a fairly intelligent, well-rounded student; and from experience (myself and many others') I can tell you there is no way to possibly study for this test. One simply cannot know everything about everything. I believe (as well as many of my professors and even the dean) that this test is strictly a matter of guessing and luck, and a poor assessment of future teachers. This book gives a fantastic outline of material to be studied, but those are it's limits. If that's all you want, by all means get this book; but, you can find free outlines via the internet with average search techniques. The explanations of some answers border on the line of "WOW!!! THANKS A TON!!! (sarcasm)" The author tries to convince you that with a little code-breaking and an eye for key words, you can answer all the questions, when in reality you either know it or you don't.

    more from this reviewer

    Not bad...

The test is what it is. This book offers practice tests which is important because the only way to pass these this test is to either 1) know EVERYTHING there is to know about history, civics, economics, psychology, sociology, and anthropology or 2) know how to and have extended practice taking this test. The book also contains the very few questions found on the actual tests website. Very useful!

    Fairly Useful

This book is a reasonable purchase. It gives some good practice test questions and provides you with an overview of what you will need to know for the test.

    Provided a real outline

This book not only provided real study material and defined specifically what else to study. It provided information on how to take the exam that really helped me stay focused during the exam. The study exams and maps were relevant to the exam unlike other books I wasted money on. The exam is quite broad and this book covers a lot of content areas, I strongly recommend this book. I do NOT recommend any other book!!!
