Overview

Talk of global warming is nearly inescapable these days — but there are some who believe the concept of climate change is an elaborate hoax. Despite the input of the world’s leading climate scientists, the urgings of politicians, and the outcry of many grassroots activists, many Americans continue to ignore the warning signs of severe climate shifts. How did this happen? Climate Cover-up seeks to answer this question, describing the pollsters and public faces who have crafted careful language to refute the findings of environmental scientists. Exploring the PR techniques, phony "think tanks," and funding used to pervert scientific fact, this book serves as a wake-up call to those who still wish to deny the inconvenient truth.

Not really new info here but the devil is in the details-the deniers are just a lot worse and alot richer than I thought. And there's not much direction to try to stop them either, except expose them and since they seem to be willing to lie, etc. I came away from this book sort of numb. I am beginning to think we may have become a sucidal species. The so called "climategate" is a perfect example-the 2 scientists were investigated by numerous academic and scientific groups and they determined that there was "absolutly no evidence that any misreporting of data, intent to mislead or other misconduct" was done by these scientists. Did that make the news?? Nope.

This book clearly outlines the millions of dollars spent by huge corporations for the purpose of; - denying that global warming exists - creating uncertainty in the minds of the public that global warming is a real threat - using resources to sue individuals who claim that specific industries are the cause of or contribute to global warming - buying the services of scientists (?) to declare that global warming does not exist - buying the services of scientists (?) to create uncertainty in the minds of the public relative to global warming - ensuring that the gas, oil and coal industries can continue unimpeded in the destruction of our environment When reading this book one feels a high degree of anger and frustration on how we, as a society, are so easily manipulated. This is a must read book if we care about our future!

The insight is good but the facts aren't clear enough.

This book does an excellent job of showing how the denialists have whole-heartedly adopted the tactics developed by the people who represented big tobacco. The target is not the science of any particular issue,or any particular part of that science, it's science itself.I'm still waiting for a denier, any denier, to post the singular message from among the hacked e-mails the invalidates the body of scientific work done on this issue. All in all a good illustration of the interlocking and internally-reinforcing network of astroturf organizations funded by the Koch brothers and various industry interests to impede any progress toward preventing and alleviating the effects of climate change. Some future generations are going to look at this issue and this era and wonder how we survived breathing with our heads so far up our collective arses.

"Climategate" has exposed this book as a fraud! We the people have been the one's being manipulated by the so-called "concensus of scientist's".
