This edition has over 200 new photos, procedural guidelines, information about using evidence in nursing practice, assessment, and managing parenteral nutrition, to list just a few topics. End-of-chapter review questions enhance learning.
Purpose: Over 200 basic, intermediate, and advanced nursing skills and procedures are outlined, complete with guidelines, rationales, teaching considerations, and a glossary. The book works nicely with the other Potter and Perry textbooks for nursing students. Every chapter has clear and concise objectives.
Audience: It is intended for nursing students in basic or intermediate courses. It is perfect for use in beginning courses, and can be used as a resource for more advanced courses.
Features: The book covers a wide variety of skills and techniques that nursing students must learn in a basic or intermediate course. They range from simple to complex, from reporting and recording to vital signs and physical assessment, oxygenation, and medications. Some essential features enhance comprehension: a list of key terms and objectives at the beginning of each chapter, critical thinking exercises at the end, and inclusion of evidence-based practice trends that provide an overview of recent research findings and their implications for quality nursing practice. Where applicable, the book also includes information on culturally diverse clients. Color illustrations, a complete glossary, and detailed skill reviews are notable features.
Assessment: This is a great resource for teaching nursing students the necessary skills for their profession. In nursing, skills are continuing to change and advance, but this edition is up to date with nursing practice. There is nothing in this book that is obsolete or unnecessary.
