Editorial Reviews

Michael Y Matsumoto
This handy guide is a quick reference for information without extreme detail. It is an easy to understand reference with quick access to a desired topic. The authors are both distinguished and experienced clinicians and educators who perceived a need for a quick reference guide to clinical endodontics for the busy practitioner without having to refer to a text which often goes into too much detail. The clinical note format aids not only the practitioner but the patient as well. I feel this format is one of the strong points of this book. This handbook is structured with coverage of all aspects of endodontics in quick reference form. Similar to a weekend continuing education course, the authors review tooth anatomy, histology, canal configuration, disease, and treatment, without going into heavy detail. Still, they provide the necessary information to tackle the subject at hand. I especially enjoyed the chapter on canal configuration as it is a great reference on the canal shapes and the percentages of multiple canals and their location. I enjoyed the chapter on radiographic alterations in normal tooth structure, as it is a great review of pathology. This book is a must for every general practitioner and would be an excellent reference for graduate endodontic residents. It is also an excellent patient education tool as the authors simplify many terms so that the practitioner can explain procedures to the patient. The authors definitely succeed in their quest to provide a quick reference manual that is not filled with extreme detail.
