Reviewer: Sally Ling, M.D.;FACP(University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine)
Description: This is the fourth edition of this practical, light, and compact drug guide containing over 1,000 medications listed alphabetically by chemical/generic name. Each entry contains uses, action, cautions, contraindications, dosage forms, and side effects.
Purpose: This book provides readily accessible "essential information for both the student and practicing physician" on drugs identified by the editorial board and readers/users of previous editions. It also includes common, standard uses of medications in addition to the official labeled indications.
Audience: This is designed to be at the fingertips, used at the point of care particularly by students and residents in training. Despite the wide availability of programs online and by handheld electronic devices, a reliable, accessible, compact book is very much in demand.
Features: The drugs are listed by chemical name with trade names in parentheses. A helpful index also provides cross referencing by listing trade names.
Assessment: This newest edition of a successful publication contains most of the newer/important drugs in common use. It provides a very quick reference of "must know" facts for the prescriber.
4 Stars! from Doody
