Editorial Reviews

Coy Brantley-Curry
Mike, I Read the book and found it fascinating and profound. It also had me reflecting on our history as family and friends as I crappled to make connections to the compelling storylines you described as loosely based on your life. I am impressed with your ability to depict known characters with truth, dignity and respect ficticiously to the point that I am not certain which is which. I wish there were more to read! I wlll be returning to Jersey at the beginning of March.

"Clipped Wings, They Do Fly" Great Job Michael!
I must tell you I can not put this book down. The creativity within the powerful graphic design that drape the pages of this book speaks life, love, freedom, destiny...and more books. I am very impressed with your creative talent to engage and capture your reader/audience right away and keep you handing on every word. Your insight to deliver, your unique way of expressing the internal/external emotions of your characters was magnificent.

Meet the Author

WILLIAM MICHAEL BARBEE, is an entrepreneur and artist who believes that all of God’s creations are beautiful. He began writing this book, “Clipped Wings, They Do Fly” as an autobiographical sketch. After battling depression for many years, William was able to reflect on the notes that he retained while in counseling with Shelly Neiderbach PhD. Those same writings became essential for giving depth to the main character in this fictional novel, “Clipped Wings, They Do Fly.”

The original script for this novel was written as a tribute to his parents, Otha Donald (late) and Josephine P. Barbee. William attributes his and his sibling’s successes to their parents. William used this novel to honor his mother for her long contributions and sacrifices. He believes that in spite of her physical disabilities, her teachings are forever reminders of how to stay grounded in these tough economic times. He credits her Clipped Wings for his ability to Fly; taken from the old adage, On your shoulders I stand.

Once its original form was completed, William decided to change it’s content to reach a more diverse audience. While keeping true to his real life’s experiences, he altered some of the behaviors in order to give shape and character to the fictional representation of Billy Ray Michaels.

His ability to merge his expertise in business, while staying true to his creativity as an artist is remarkable. William Michael presently owns and operates six separate companies and affects over thirty plus households weekly. However successful he’s been in business, William Michael believes in his principle that “the acceptance of failure is the beginning of success.” He strengthens his beliefs by, “Living life as if it’s your last day, do all you can do for others as long as it doesn’t kill you, and to Leave more than you take.” This is the first fiction novel that he has written and is in the process of writing his first screenplay for his first movie project.

A fantastic read! The author did a wonderful job of holding the readers attention in his writing...I read this book in just a couple of days...it made me laugh & cry....the empathy and compassion in the writing added a sense of familiarity to the main character & his illness...very powerful & emotional story. I also loved the insightful poems interspersed throughout the book. A very touching story of one mans journey in a world of mental illness within a world of misunderstanding.
