Cloaks, the masters of magic, distinguished by the colors of their cloaks. The Reds, who draw through emotions; the Illusionists, who draw through knowledge; the Directs, who draw straight from magic; the Thasos, who draw through plants and animals; the Healers, who draw through human beings; and the Royals, who rule the kingdoms of Mantau. King James of Rhinia, one of the largest kingdoms on the continent, wishes for the Royals to put their differences aside and unite as all the other cloaks of the world have done. After many failed attempts to open talks with the warring kingdom of Fuerza, King Tanix suddenly agrees to meet with King James. The Rhinian king quickly summons all his lords to the capital to begin the discussion with Fuerza.
Kylis Lawson, son of Lord Richard Lawson, arrives in Castle Rhineton to participate in the talks. When an assassination attempt occurs, the talks fall apart, placing the future peace between all kingdoms at risk. King James immediately launches an investigation, which Kylis joins in order to find the culprit and prevent the talks from being a complete failure.
But when betrayal by others is revealed, war appears inevitable, and Kylis must join in Rhinia’s defense before it’s too late for all the kingdoms of Quoa.
