Meet the Author

Mark Szamatulski has been the co-owner and operator of Maltose Express since 1990. He and his wife Tess have written the books Clone Brews and Beer Captured. These books each give homebrew recipes for commercial beers and help the home beer maker to brew great beers on the first attempt. Mark and Tess have written the Style column for Brew Your Own magazine, where they are on the Editorial Board, and have contributed many articles to the publication. Their beers have been awarded many medals in homebrew contests, and have had their beers put on the tap of a local brewery. Time.com has filmed their store for its website, and they were the subject of a Discovery Channel segment on homebrewing which was featured on the show “How Stuff Is Made.”

    Pretty Damn Close

    Well written, easy to follow and pretty damn close to the 'Real Thing'. Try their versions of Guinness, Bass, Murphys or Newcastle and I guaranty you will not go back to 'store bought'. You don't need a degree in Zymurgy in order to understand this book. If you purchase the recipes from the authors store, Maltose Express, you will also save about 50% from the name brand brews. Next to installing a swimming pool in my yard, I can't think of another thing that has gotten me so many new friends. If you are going to try this hobby you need this book.

    Wonderful Recipe Book

    After seeing "Clone Brews" along with it's sister book "North American Clone Brews" at a home brew shop this summer, I had to possess them both. This book has already supplied me with a Belgian clone and promises to provide more wonderful brews from breweries from around the world. I highly recommend it to all home brewers including those, like me, who are just getting started.
