Overview

Dani Carrigan has always relied on logic when making important life decisions, but when she discovers she’s pregnant - and that there’s a chance her baby may be born “not perfect”— logic lets her down.

It would help if the baby’s father would pop the question, but widowed father Adrian seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new relationship with Dani.

The last time she felt this alone and scared was when she was 16 and her mother died, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving rancher father. She felt so inadequate then, but is she any more prepared to be a mother now?

Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbour and friend, divorce attorney Elliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge she faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond—Elliot reveals himself a better man than she ever guessed.

Is it possible that Elliot hasn’t been playing the field—but waiting for her?

CJ Carmichael has a way of telling a story and grabbing the attention of the reader from the very first few words. This is a wonderful story about friendships, hopes and new beginnings. A surprise pregnancy is not what Dani Carrigan needs right now. And, to make things worse, when she tells her boyfriend Adrian (who is also her boss) the news, he does not take it well. He doesn't want another child when he's raising his daughter on his own after his wife's death. He refuses to make a commitment. With the help of her friends, Eliot and Miriam, Dani has enough support to help her through the pregnancy. What she doesn't tell anyone is the fact her baby may be born with Down Syndrome. Eliot has been hiding his true feelings for Dani for some time afraid to act on them. He knows she is in love and hoping that Adrian will accept the baby in time. After the pregnancy, Dani finds raising a special needs baby is much more work than she expected. But, she refuses help. Eliot has a plan to help. Will this bring them closer together or will it destroy their friendship?

Dani and Elliot's story is hard for me to review without spilling the beans. CJ Carmichael caught so many aspects of a woman, it was amazing. The need for independence, to be strong, career oriented, fears of motherhood, picking the wrong guy, when the right one is in front of you, etc.. Having to hold your family together during tragedy and than trying to figure out who you are as a person. You won't be disappointed in this story, maybe a little sad at some of the choices Dani made with her family, but an understanding of the reasons she did what she did.

Dani Carrigan is pregnant. The man she loves doesn't want her and the baby in his life. She's alone and frightened. An Ultrasound shows that her baby has Down Syndrome markers. Dani alone has to decide what to do. She won't involve her family or the baby's father. Does she have the strength to do this on her own? She needs to tell someone about her pregnancy so she tells Eliot and Miriam, her closest friends. She is so tired of secrets. Close To Her Heart is an incredible story with great emotional depth. Dani and Eliot are honorable. They care about people and want to help. Their love develops slowly and catches them both unawares. Miriam is the opposite. She is selfish and spoiled. She cares only for herself. The novel is skillfully crafted and pulled at my heart. The story centers on friendship, family and love. C.J. Carmichael has outdone herself with this book. She brought me to tears with her honest portrayal of the joy and pain that a person experiences when they become a parent.

What an amazing story of Dani Carrington, unwed mother finds out that there she might have a baby with birth defects when she is sixteen weeks pregnant. The father of the baby is on again/off again with the relationship. Her wonderful neighbor Eliot, steps in with the help of her pregnancy. I must admit I did get a little upset with Dani in certain circumstances in the book, but it all ended up well. Loved, Eliot on how he did not give up on Dani and the baby. You never know where you will find love and least expect it. This is part of Carrington of Circle C series, but can be read as a stand alone. I love this series!!!

Thirty-four year old professor, Dani Carrigan never thought she wanted to be a mother. Until she saw that little blue line, that is. Since then she’s known that this is the best course for her life. Sure, it may not be the “smart” choice but Dani has always done what’s smart now it’s time to do something else. But what’s right isn’t always what’s easy. When it looks like the baby’s daddy isn’t so on board with having this baby and Dani finds there may be health complications, Dani hides. From her sisters, from her friends, from her decisions. Will anyone be able to reach Dani through her self-doubt and denial? Hott Review: Oh my goodness!! “Close To Her Heart” is amazing! This book was so much more than a sweet romance! What I liked: I loved Dani in this book. In other books, I’d thought she was a bit stuffy but in “Close To Her Heart” Dani truly shines. (She also seems to be very much like me so I’m wondering if people see me as stuffy…) C. J. Carmichael completely winds your emotions around Dani and her decisions. It hurt so much to see her alone and pulling away from everyone because she couldn’t make the decisions she thought they’d want her to make. What I didn’t like: It was really hard for me to see this end. I really want to stay a part of Dani’s life… More… Author: C. J.
